Greater Western Region Swimming - Horsham

Term 1 continued to be busy in the sports department as we packed up the athletics gear and dragged out the swim caps and googles to head to Horsham for the Greater Western Region Swimming Carnival.

With sixteen students having a fantastic GD swim meet, they went in with enthusiasm and energy.  Fighting hard in the pool, the individual swimmers’ training paid off as the podium finishes started to come in.  Later in the morning the relay swimmers arrived with Mr Molan and Mrs Rowe.

The relay talent was very strong.  Monivae teams worked hard with 2 teams coming away with 2nd placings.

Overall a fantastic day for Monivae placing 5th overall against 51 secondary schools in the region.

The final week of term and the final all school sporting event.  Over 140 enthusiastic runners, headed down to Lake Hamilton to compete in the House Cross Country prior to the rest of the school joining them at the lake to complete a brisk 3km walk to gain much needed participation points to help their House win the converted Cross Country trophy.

In less than 12 minutes, Harry McShane hurtled over the finish line, in a speedy 11mins 32sec as the first 3km student over the line.  Leayla Pohl was not far behind Harry, with a time of 12min 9sec as the first female.  Hugh Prentice was the first 5km runner over the line at 18min 35sec.

Last week of Term 1 and 13 students had an early start as they headed to Laang Sporting Shooters ground to compete in the Warrnambool and King’s College SSAA Schools Sporting Clay Target Competition.

With little knowledge of how the competition would be ran, the team ably led by Shooting Captains, Charlotte Braune and Seamus Byron, went in with a positive attitude and a willingness to have a go and try their best.
