Friday 6th March - Curriculum Day (Grand Prix Weekend)

Students will not be required at school this Friday 6th March.

When combined with the Labour Day Public Holiday on Monday 9th March, this means families will have a four day long weekend!  Enjoy!

NAPLAN Testing Next Week

Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will take part in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy).

NAPLAN is a nationwide assessment that takes place each year for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The tests assess students’ skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. They provide schools and families with useful information about how students are progressing in these key areas of learning and help us understand how our students are performing over time.

While NAPLAN is only one small snapshot of student learning, we always encourage students to do their best and approach the tests with confidence.

To help students perform at their best, we ask families of Year 3 and Year 5 students to please ensure children are well rested, have a good breakfast and arrive at school on time each day next week. All tests will begin soon after 9:00am, when students are typically most settled and ready to concentrate.

We also ask other families to help support our students by ensuring that the school environment is calm and quiet during the testing times, allowing those completing the assessments to focus and do their best.

NAPLAN Schedule

  • Writing – Wednesday 11 March – 9:00am
  • Reading – Thursday 12 March – 9:00am
  • Conventions of Language (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling) – Friday 13 March – 9:00am
  • Mathematics – Monday 16 March – 9:00am

Thank you to our Year 3 and Year 5 families for supporting students during this time.

Sexuality Education Program – Term 2

Next term, students will participate in our classroom sexuality health program, Talking the Talk, developed by sexual health nurse and educator Vanessa Hamilton.

This program focuses on physical, social and emotional changes, protective behaviours and consent. Lessons are age appropriate, aligned with the Australian Curriculum, and delivered by classroom teachers using a factual and respectful approach.

This is the fifth year we have partnered with Vanessa to deliver this important learning. We believe it is essential that young people receive accurate, evidence based information to support healthy and informed understandings.

We recognise and respect the important role families play in this area and hope the program supports ongoing conversations at home. If you would like to discuss the program further, or if you prefer your child not to participate, please contact Neil Scott at neil.scott@education.vic.gov.au.

Susan Bishop

As shared recently, Susan Bishop, a long-standing teacher at SKiPPS, retired at the end of 2025 after an extraordinary 35 years of service to St Kilda Park Primary School.

Since beginning in 1990, Susan has made a lasting contribution to our community as a classroom teacher, PE teacher, librarian and most recently as our specialist Philosophy teacher.

She also led initiatives such as the Premier’s Reading Challenge and our Walkathon, always bringing care, creativity and a deep commitment to students and colleagues. Her impact spans generations and has helped shape the culture and traditions that make SKiPPS so special.

We are delighted to welcome Susan back to SKiPPS on Friday 24 April, where she will spend time with students from 2:00pm, followed by a 3:00pm assembly where we will formally acknowledge her dedication and remarkable contribution to our school.

We warmly invite past and present members of our school community to join us in celebrating and thanking Susan for the difference she has made to so many lives.

Safe travelling to and from school

With the Grand Prix taking place in our neighbourhood this week, our local area will be busier than usual, with increased traffic and many visitors unfamiliar with our streets.

We kindly remind all families to take extra care when travelling to and from school.

 Please ensure students:

  • Cross only at designated crossings and traffic lights
  • Follow all pedestrian signals carefully
  • Wear helmets when riding bikes and scooters
  • Stay alert and avoid distractions near roads

A little extra caution will help keep everyone safe during this particularly busy time in our community. Thank you for supporting safe travel to and from school.
