Fortnightly Classroom Update

As we commence term 2, the Prep students are looking forward to a busy and productive term learning about ‘Where We Live’ and how we can care for our environment. They will explore the features of native animals and their habitats and use their understanding to create a report about their chosen animal. 

During Mathematics, the students are learning to partition and combine collections up to 10 using part-whole relationships. During Literacy, the students are continuing to use their growing phonic skills to sound and blend to read and write CVC words. They are loving our Little Learners Love Literacy online platform, and are enjoying using the computers to read the Stage 1 texts and complete quizzes to check their understanding

The Year 4 students have settled in well after their Easter break and have made a positive start to Term 2. They have begun reading Uncle Xbox while continuing to develop their writing skills, working towards creating their own information report about volcanoes. As part of this, students will also be designing and creating their own volcanoes.

In Inquiry, students are learning about rocks and the Earth, building their understanding of how our planet is formed and changes over time. In Religion, they are studying the sacrament of Holy Communion and what it means within the Church.

Students are also very excited to be continuing with Inter-School Sports this term.

Prep students have enthusiastically begun their Italian lessons for the term. They confidently followed two instructions given by the teacher in Italian and could recall greetings and respond to their name when asked. They have learnt about the Italian flag and have started to play some language games to practise naming colours in Italian.   

Years 1 and 2 students have begun the term by revising polite responses to the question Come stai? (How are you) and followed instructions like Tutti seduti (Everyone sit down) They have begun learning how to express a like or dislike in Italian, practising this language in speaking, reading and writing activities

Years 3 and 4 have begun the term by revising numbers to twenty and asking for classroom items in Italian. They have also revised some colours and are building on their language skills by beginning to ask for items by colour or number in a full sentence; for example Posso avere la penna rossa. (May I have the red pen). As they practise these the students have explored the order of nouns and adjectives and how they must match in gender.

Years 5 and 6 have demonstrated their learning as they revised expressing a feeling and explaining why they feel that way with modelled phrases. They have begun to name some body parts and learn phrases to ask and answer questions about what part hurts.                                                                                                          

Foundation students have begun the term exploring drama, with a focus on how basic facial expressions can convey different feelings. Through a range of engaging drama games, students have been practising how to use their faces to show emotions such as happiness, sadness, surprise, and excitement. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experiment with expressing themselves in creative ways.

Years 1 and 2 have begun their unit on Dance by participating in a syllable dance where they created a move for each syllable in their name. They have explored how animal movements can be recreated in certain dance styles and can inspire music. The students listened  to musical pieces Baby Elephant Walk by Henri Mancini and Carnival of Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns and tried to guess which animals were represented. They also presented animal moves they thought might have inspired the music.

Years 3 and 4 have enthusiastically begun the unit on Dance. They have looked at some examples of dances around the world and explored how some may only use limited moves or body parts. They have learnt a simple dance routine and then worked in groups to present the same dance with a limitation placed on them.

Years 5 and 6 have begun the unit on Dance with lots of energy as they participated in warm ups. They have explored how popular dance has changed since the 1920’s by watching examples from each decade and performed a dance from the 2020’s that they are familiar with. They have then focussed on the dances of the 1920’s and worked in groups to learn and present to the class one dance from that era.

Welcome to the Art Room – Term 2 Update

It’s been a vibrant and creative start to Term 2 in the art room!

Our Foundation students have been exploring primary colours, taking inspiration from the work of artist Piet Mondrian. They are learning how colours can be combined and arranged to create bold, balanced compositions.

Year 1 students have been developing their Aboriginal-inspired artworks, carefully adding patterned lines to enhance their designs and deepen their understanding of visual storytelling.

In Year 2, students have been busy refining their duck drawings, focusing on adding intricate details to bring their artworks to life.

Our Year 3/4 classes have just begun working with watercolours, experimenting with different techniques to create soft blends and expressive effects.

Meanwhile, Year 5/6 students are constructing the bases for their newspaper sculptures, building strong foundations for their upcoming 3D creations.

It’s wonderful to see such creativity and enthusiasm across all year levels. We look forward to sharing more of their fantastic work as the term progresses!
