Chair's Report Term 2 SAC Meeting - Thursday 14th May

It’s hard to believe we are already well into Term 2; blink once, and the first half of the school year is nearly behind us!

It has certainly been a busy and exciting start to 2026 at St Michael’s Primary School, with plenty happening across our school community. This term, we saw the completion of the new library, playground and staff lounge spaces. These additions have already brought new energy to the school and have been warmly welcomed by students and staff alike. We now look forward to Stage 2 of the building project, including the new music and art rooms, which are expected to be completed by the end of Term 3.

At the recent School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting, a number of important topics were discussed.

Enrolments for 2027

Enrolments for 2027 are looking very strong, currently sitting at 26 students, with further enquiries continuing to come in. This is a wonderful reflection of St Michael’s positive reputation within the community. As always, word of mouth remains one of our greatest strengths, so please continue sharing the many benefits of a St Michael’s education with family and friends considering primary schooling options.

A New Vision for St Michael’s

Father Nicholas presented the inspiring work staff have recently undertaken in developing a new Vision Statement for the school. SAC members were invited to review and provide feedback on three draft statements that will help guide St Michael’s from 2027 and beyond. It was encouraging to hear the passion, care and commitment shown by staff throughout this process. Over the coming months, consultation will continue with students and parents to ensure the final vision truly reflects the values, aspirations and future direction of our school community.

Child Safe Standards

Over recent weeks, staff have spent time working through the 11 Child Safe Standards and the policies required to support their implementation within the school. These standards are mandatory across all schools and play a vital role in ensuring every child feels safe, respected and supported. Staff continue to approach this work thoughtfully and compassionately, ensuring these standards are embedded in meaningful and practical ways throughout school life.

School Lunches

While Subway lunches will continue to be available, the school is currently exploring additional lunch options to provide students with greater variety and choice. More information will be shared over the coming term as new options are introduced.

P and F Group

Our Parents and Friends Group continues to do an outstanding job supporting the school through fundraising, community events and volunteer efforts. Their work helps provide additional opportunities, resources and equipment that directly benefit our students. The P and F have recently developed a clearer set of working guidelines and identified future fundraising goals. There are some exciting events already being discussed, including a student disco on Thursday 18th June. Look out for further details.

Celebrating Denise

At the conclusion of the meeting, we began acknowledging and celebrating the extraordinary contribution Denise has made to St Michael’s over many years of dedicated service. On behalf of the School Advisory Council, I would like to sincerely thank Denise for the care, leadership and commitment she has shown in helping make St Michael’s such a valued and thriving school community. We wish her every happiness in her well-earned retirement and look forward to celebrating her contribution more fully before the end of Term 2.

Finally, I would like to thank all staff, parents and community members who continue to support and strengthen St Michael’s. Your generosity, commitment and involvement help ensure our children receive a high-quality education within a compassionate, faith-led community where every child is encouraged to grow and flourish.
