Current Focus:

School-Wide Routines

Across the past eighteen months, as an important element of our St Mel's PS Behaviour Support Framework we have introduced and maintained a range of school-wide routines designed to enhance our school as a calm, predictable, routine and orderly learning enviroenment.

These school-wide routines, with hight expectations, implemented with fidelity across the school community lessen the congnitive load on students (and staff) freeing limited and valuable attention, concentration and focus for new learning and application of aquired knowledge and skills.

Parents and carers will have noticed many of these school-wide routines including:

• Cue To Start - gaining 100% student attention prior to deliviering a direction, teaching point or new learning.
• Lining Up - prior to providing direction and/or moving into, form or between learning areas.
• Moving across the school - in lines, in an orderly manner.
• Entering / Exiting spaces - in lines, in an orderly manner.
• Teacher use of hand gestures - while providing direction and/or instruction.

We will continue to implement these important school-wide routines which combined with high impact teaching is contributing to improved student engagement, behaviour, learning, development and growth.
