Our Year 3 and Year 6 students have been exploring the wonders of the ancient world at the Melbourne Museum.
Melbourne Museum Excursion – Year 6 perspective

Last Thursday and Friday, the Year 3 and 6 students went on an exciting excursion to the Melbourne Museum. As soon as we arrived, my group began exploring the dinosaur and insect exhibitions. We learnt about the incredible variety of insects that live in ecosystems around the world and discovered how each species plays an important role in its environment.
One of the highlights was seeing the enormous dinosaur skeletons, which helped us understand just how gigantic these prehistoric creatures really were. We were also very intrigued by the Triceratops display, where we viewed real dinosaur bones estimated to be over 60 million years old.
Next, we visited an exhibition about Earth's very diverse environments, including coral reefs, rainforests, and the Arctic. We investigated the unique plants and animals that live in each ecosystem and learnt how living things have adapted to survive in these different environments.
Another fascinating exhibition was Empire, Power, People, which was about Ancient Rome. We viewed original Roman artefacts, including statues, mosaics, and jewellery and everyday objects that gave us an insight into what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago. We discovered the types of food Romans ate, the games and toys children played with, and learnt more about the life and legacy of Julius Caesar. We also found out why the months of July and August are named after Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar.
This exhibition made lots of connections to our recent Core Knowledge learning about Ancient Rome. We studied influential historical figures such as Julius Caesar, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and Alexander the Great, so it was cool to see real artefacts and deepen our understanding of this important period in history.
Overall, the Melbourne Museum excursion was an enjoyable and memorable experience. It allowed us to connect our classroom learning with real-world exhibits and discover new and fascinating facts about dinosaurs, ecosystems and Ancient Rome.
Our trip to the Melbourne Museum – Year 3 perspective

Last Thursday and Friday Years 3 and 6 went to the Melbourne Museum.
When we got there we put our bags away and got into our groups. In the Museum we went to the ancient Rome exhibition and there we saw ancient toys, coins and other artifacts. We saw how Romans lived back in those times. We also went on a scavenger hunt and ticked things off our list. It was great to see some of the great things we learnt about in English last term.
We also got to look around the rest of the museum. We saw the large and complex dino skeletons, they were so cool! Some groups got to the exhibitions on our wondrous planet, bugs, and road safety. Our favourite parts of the museum were the forest walk where we got to go under the waterfall and plants as well as the wondrous planet exhibition because there were so many places to look at.
We were very tired at the end but had an amazing day discovering lots of wonderful things.
