International visitors

We are delighted to welcome a group of international students who have recently joined our school for a short-term study experience. Over the coming weeks, they will be learning alongside our Year 5 and 6 students while experiencing Australian school life and culture.

Hosting international students is a wonderful opportunity for our whole school community. Our students have the chance to build new friendships, learn about different cultures, and gain a broader understanding of the world. These shared experiences help develop curiosity, empathy and global awareness, while creating lasting memories for everyone involved.

First impressions in Year 5

We caught up with some of our visiting Year 5 students, Scott, Alan and Tony, to find out how they're enjoying Australia so far.

Tony shared that one of his favourite subjects at Port Melbourne Primary School is French. "I like learning French because I'm interested in it," he said. Alan and Scott both said they especially enjoy maths and music.

When it comes to Australian food, bread has been a big hit! Alan said, "My favourite food is bread. I can choose different types of bread in Australia." Tony agreed, adding, "I love sandwiches with ham. The ham here is delicious." 

The students also spoke about why they chose to study in Australia. Alan explained, "I want to learn better English in Australia. Here I can learn more and have more friends." The boys shared that they all began learning English when they were just three years old in kindergarten.

Reflecting on his experience so far, Scott said, "I like the Australian food. I live in a house and it's very comfortable. I like the school and I am very happy I came to Australia."

Tony noticed a difference between schools, saying, "It's more fun here than school in Hong Kong. At home we have a lot of homework."

Alan has also enjoyed exploring Australia outside the classroom. "I like the food and the ocean. I like seeing the many different types of birds here, they are very cute."

Learning from one another

Our Port Melbourne Primary School students have loved welcoming their new classmates.

Maeve said, "I think it's cool. It's nice to learn about other cultures and we enjoy teaching them about our Australian culture."

Emily added, "I think it's good because they can teach us their language."
