School Sport Victoria Sporting Blues Award
Lourdez Sakaria and Parish Hunt, Yr12, recently received the SSV Blues award at a gala function at the MCG.
The Victorian School Sports Awards are the highest sporting accolades presented in Victoria’s government school system. This annual event, held for the first time in 1994, rewards excellence across all categories of major school sports. The awards are given to students who have excelled or made an outstanding contribution to school sport in Victoria. There is only one award per sport across the State of Victoria, so they are very hard to win.
Both students are members of our rugby academy. They both represented Victoria in 2023 in both Rugby Union and Rugby League, after numerous State selections in previous years. They are on the pathways to future high level rugby achievements as they enter the open rugby world. The award is a reflection and recognition of the work ethic and attitude of both students.
Lourdez and Parish are the 13th and 14th sportspeople from Melton Secondary College to receive a SSV Sporting Blue – a wonderful achievement by the school.
School Sport Victoria has announced some recent State team selections. We are very pleased to see two of our students get selected in a couple of the early announcements:
- Haleina Tanoi, Yr10, has repeated 2023 selection with getting chosen for the 2024 SSV 16yrs Netball team to play at the Gold Coast in late July.
- Baxter Maynard, Yr11, has been selected in the SSV 18yrs Baseball team to play late April in Canberra.
Rugby - Congratulations to the following players who have been selected for the 2024 NRL Victoria U15s Schoolboys invitation only trial -Macalastar Magatogia Tamate, Texas Esera-Saluni, Tamiano Sakaria, Phoenix Niwha, and Willis Te'o.
Our school Sport Captain, Sam Fangatua, has been playing for the Melbourne Rebels u/20 team over the last few weeks. This is a terrific achievement and is a reward for the work he puts into his training and performances.

5th Melton Christian 317

Athletics Carnival
This will be held Friday week 1 next term. Students can currently submit an interest to be considered for house selection online via the Compass post – INSIGHTS. It takes a few minutes, and the house leaders use this as a guide. If students do not enter then the leaders are not aware of any interest, especially for the unknown juniors. We will be holding the 1500m events at school on a separate day to be decided. Parents are welcome to attend. Only students who have signed the General Consent form will be allowed to attend. Every student has been given one of these to fill in a number of times this term. It is also available on the Insights tab.
Entries and Trainings
Students will be able to sign up to be considered for team selections on a Compass post that has been activated. This gives us an indication whether we have the interested numbers to enter a team. If students fail to sign up, then we must assume that there is little interest, and that team will not be entered. Look for the training Compass post send out on a Friday or each weekend.
Trainings will occur on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday afterschool 3.15pm-4.15pm.
