Year 2

Year 2 Learning Highlights
The Year 2 students have had a wonderful start to the term, continuing their exploration of quality children's literature while developing their reading, writing and creative thinking skills.
Last term, students immersed themselves in the magical world of The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. Inspired by the story, our Year 2 learning space was transformed with a spectacular Faraway Tree display, bringing the adventures of Moon-Face, Silky and their friends to life. The project encouraged students to engage deeply with the text and sparked many imaginative conversations throughout the term.
This term, students have been enjoying The Twits by Roald Dahl as their class mentor text. The children have delighted in reading about the mischievous Mr and Mrs Twit and discussing the themes, characters and humour throughout the novel. The book has certainly been a class favourite, with many students enthusiastically rating it a perfect 10 out of 10! Favourite moments included the monkeys' clever revenge, the hilarious tricks played between Mr and Mrs Twit, and the unforgettable ending when the Twits gradually disappear into themselves.
Alongside their reading studies, students have continued to strengthen their writing skills across a variety of text types, including narratives, recounts and information reports. This term, they have also begun exploring poetry.
To celebrate the arrival of winter, students created sensory poems that used vivid language to describe what winter looks, sounds, tastes, smells and feels like. Through this work, students have been developing their ability to use descriptive vocabulary and figurative language to create imagery for their readers.
Their poems painted beautiful pictures of swaying trees, whispering winds, crackling fires, hot chocolate, warming soups and chilly winter breezes. The creativity and imagination shown in their writing demonstrates the wonderful progress students are making as young authors.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and growing confidence our Year 2 students continue to demonstrate in their literacy learning and look forward to sharing more of their work throughout the year.
