Assistant Principal Update

Dear Parent and Carers,

I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend! Staff and students have been working hard this term across the curriculum from learning all the letters and sounds of the alphabet in Prep and celebrating Milo Monkey’s birthday to learning all about government in Year 6!

Attitude

At assembly last week, I spoke to students about ‘attitude’ – something that we can control and something that can greatly impact how we come to school and engage with learning. AFL great and Freeze MND founder, Neale Daniher, a man who has inspiringly navigated many challenges in his life was recently remembered for his stance on attitude which he described as; ‘A choice no matter what is thrown your way it is up to you how to respond’. We celebrated many students at our assembly that were being recognised for our value of ‘Challenge’ which we define at school as using energy, effort and determination to give everything a go – a positive attitude helps us do this! As we come towards the end of term, try and continue to support your children to come to school with a positive attitude every day.

Assessment

As staff work towards finalising your child’s Semster 1 report, a range of assessments have been occurring within classrooms. Some may be formal while others are informal, ongoing captures of a student’s understanding at a point in time. Teachers use assessment daily, to plan for content at the right level, to responsively teach in the moment and modify instruction, to monitor progress and assess achievement. We encourage all students to do their best every day and celebrate learning gains big and small and encourage all students to be proud of their work on a daily basis and encourage you to do the same with your child at home.

Term 3

Teaching teams are busily planning for the term ahead. Our Integrated curriculum will see all year levels across our school investigating ‘Geography’ in the following units;

  • Prep - My backyard, My School
  • Year 1 - My State: Victoria
  • Year 2 - My Country: Australia
  • Year 3 - The Australian Environment: Vegetation
  • Year 4 - World Geography: Climate
  • Year 5 - The Australian Environment: Climate hazards and sustainable living
  • Year 6 - Countries of the World

We look forward to these learning experiences that will see students explore these themes also during literacy and numeracy.
