Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW
Thank you to our JSC students who organised and ran a variety of Education Week activities last week at lunch times. Students had the opportunity to draw a teacher, plant some seeds in planter boxes, and some students are working on a short video tour of the school and its history, and others have been creating a historical quiz about MPW to share at next week’s assembly.
We wish our Division Cross Country participants: Anika, Flynn, Estelle, Susan and Lachlan all the best for their finals tomorrow. As always, reaching these levels of competition are a great achievement. Good luck!
Presentation of the 2025 Annual Report
On 22nd June at 5:30pm in the staffroom, we will be holding our presentation of the 2025 Annual Report prior to our scheduled School Council Meeting. This presentation provides the opportunity for the school to present the results of our Annual Report for last year to the community, sharing highlights, areas of focus and achievements for the 2025 school year.
The presentation is open for all school community members to attend.
After this meeting, the Annual Report document will be shared on the School’s Website.
Reconciliation Week
At next week’s assembly some of our senior students will be acknowledging and presenting information about Reconciliation Week for whole school awareness. The focus is acknowledging a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The 2026 theme, ‘All In’, calls on all Australians to step forward together.
Semester 1 Reporting Update
Early this term, I sent out information regarding Industrial Action that impacted Australian Education Union members having a ban on written commentary for reporting this term.
While a new agreement has not been finalised, this ban continues to be in place for teachers this term.
For the large majority of classes, where your child’s teacher is a union member, a formal semester report will be published on Compass on Friday 19th June. This report will give families the opportunity to see their child(ren)’s progress against the Victorian Curriculum, attendance data for the semester and the termly Progress Report on behaviour and effort. There will not be any written comments.
In the case where your child’s teacher is a non-union member, they will still have some obligation to provide some written commentary. Where there are classes that are impacted by this, we will communicate directly to families of the class to explain what to expect in the report.
I remind families that early in Term 3, we hold our 3-way conference meetings where students, parents and teachers can discuss the semester report and students’ achievement in the first half of the year. These are generally held in week 3 of the term.
Online Safety Information
In the education section of the newsletter, we have provided some information and links to particular resources to support families with their understanding and knowledge of online environments, current trends and popular apps, and ways of supporting your child to be safe online. I encourage you to take a moment to have a look at some of the current advice.
Finally, we have our second emergency drill scheduled for Wednesday 3rd June. This will be our Evacuation Offsite drill, where we gather at the park on the corner of Argyle and Eglinton Sreets. We will update families on the day at the conclusion of the drill.
Regards,
Jarrod Sutton
Principal
