Acting Principal Update

Over the past two weeks, there has been a wonderful sense of energy and connection across our school community. Students have enjoyed a range of engaging experiences, from our successful Movie Night bringing families together and raising money for our school, to our senior students attending the School of Rock production, and our youngest visitors joining us for our First Steps to Prep sessions. It has been fantastic to see students embracing these opportunities with enthusiasm and pride. Below you’ll find reflections on these recent highlights, along with important updates and information about what’s coming up at Menzies Creek Primary School.

School Calendar

A reminder to keep checking the School Calendar in the newsletter, as there are key dates already listed for Term 3.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Our Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews are being held on Thursday 23rd July. This is an opportunity for families to discuss their child’s progress with their teachers and ask any questions about their child’s End-of-Semester Report. I will send an email to families when the booking system for Parent Teacher Interviews opens.

End-of-Semester Reports

As you are aware, at Menzies Creek Primary School, we provide feedback throughout the semester, through Continuous Reporting. Therefore, on your child’s report you will see all the feedback from the Continuous Reports across Term 1 and 2, as well as where your child has been placed against the Achievement Standards of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. End-of-Semester Reports will be available to families on the last day of Term 2.

Continuous Reporting

We hope you have enjoyed reviewing your child’s Continuous Reports on Compass. You should now have access to the following Term 2 Learning Tasks:

  • First Two Weeks
  • Mathematics Unit One
  • English – Speaking and Listening
  • All Specialist Subjects – Auslan, Kitchen Garden, Performing Arts, Physical Education, and Visual Arts
  • English Writing

Each week we will continue to publish a report on a specific area of the curriculum to ensure you are receiving timely feedback on your child's progress. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Division Cross Country

Ava and Callum proudly represent Menzies Creek Primary School at the Divisional Cross Country event in Yarra Glen. We are so proud of their effort, determination and the way they represented our school!

A huge congratulations to Ava on placing 16th in her event, and to Callum for finishing an amazing 23rd! What an incredible achievement to make it all the way through to Division level.

Hot Chocolate Mondays

Off the back of such a successful Hot Chocolate and P.J Day, we have decided to offer hot chocolates every Monday at lunchtime in BER. You can order via QKR and funds raised will go towards the school.

Movie Night

Our recent Movie Night was a wonderful success, bringing our school community together for a fun and relaxed evening. It was fantastic to see so many families in attendance, and we thank our Fundraising and Events Committee for their organisation in making the night so enjoyable.

Attitudes to School Survey

Our Grade 4 - 6 students recently completed the Attitudes to School Survey, approaching it with thoughtfulness and maturity. To recognise their fantastic effort, we surprised them with hot chocolates and marshmallows, which was very well deserved! The feedback gathered is incredibly valuable and will support us in continuing to improve and respond to the needs of our students.

I would like to share some initial results with families. The early data highlights the strong sense of connection, belonging and wellbeing our students feel at Menzies Creek Primary School. This is a wonderful reflection of the care and dedication of our staff, as well as the positive and supportive community we have built together.

Grade 4/5/6 Excursion – School of Rock

Our senior students had a fantastic time attending Monbulk College’s production of School of Rock. The performance was engaging and inspiring, and it was a great opportunity for students to experience live theatre and see the talents of local secondary students on display.

2026 School Production

We are pleased to share that our 2026 School Production will be held at Emerald Secondary College in the EPAC on Thursday 10th September and the great news this year is there will be no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. We are pleased to share that this year's production will be, "We Speak for the Trees."

First Steps to Prep Program

We have now held two of our First Steps to Prep sessions, and both have been a wonderful success. It has been fantastic to meet some of our aspiring 2027 Foundation students and see them begin to build confidence and connections within our school environment.

Our first session saw students enthusiastically participate in obstacle courses and games as part of our PMP and PE program, while in our second session, children enjoyed time in the Art Room painting their own pots before exploring our garden and planting into their pots to take home with them. These experiences provided a lovely snapshot of our Visual Arts and Kitchen Garden programs, while allowing students to engage in hands-on, creative learning.

A big thank you to Paige and Alison for their thoughtful planning, and to Alison and Hollie for leading Session Two. We look forward to continuing the program with our final session coming up on Thursday 18th June where we will be undertaking an Auslan lesson. Places are still available for our final session.
