Year 9 & Year 10 High Potential Excursion
To VSSEC
On Wednesday the high potential classes in Year 9 and 10 attended VSSEC for two educational programs. The Year 9 group completed the Mission To Mars program and the Year 10 group completed the Human BioScience program. The Year 9s collected real soil and rock samples, drilled an ice core, conducted a thermal survey and measured seismic activity. Students applied their acquired skills and knowledge throughout the experience using simulations, algorithmic thinking and mathematics during the immersive program.
The Year 10s tested the fitness of five astronaut candidates in whether they were able to travel to space. Students used their own measurements to calculate their fitness for space travel, including carrying out genetic screening and learning how scientists can analyse DNA for genetic diseases using specialist equipment.
