Assistant Principal

Laura Forster - Year 11 & 12

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) have outlined the dates and times of the two General Achievement Tests (GAT) on Tuesday 17th June.  All students including those in Vocational Major, (VM) are required to sit section A Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Numeracy from 9.00 -11.15, and then again to complete section B – General Knowledge and Skills from 1.15 to 3.00 pm. S are used to check that the VCE external assessments and school-based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed.

The General Achievement test measures general knowledge and skills in Math’s, science, technology, humanities, the arts and social sciences. The GAT result CAN also be used to calculate Derived Examination Scores if required. They also measure. students Literacy and Numeracy skills against the Victorian standards. It is essential that all students apply themselves fully to achieving their very best. Students receive a Literacy and Numeracy grade as part of their VCE completion certificates at the end of the year.

Many employers seek this information as part of job applications as an indicator of Literacy and Numeracy standards of any prospective employees. For students who are seeking an ATAR, the GAT provides a baseline level of achievement and can be used to verify final grades in some circumstances.

We wish all our students completing the GAT the very best. Students should meet at 8 30 outside the 400 buildings to ensure they are lined up and have their names marked off well before the official start time. A reminder that bags and any electronic equipment including phones, and smart watches cannot be bought into the examination room.

The Year 11 VCE exams draw to a close this week. It was wonderful to see all students using the time effectively and trying their very best. Results will be available on the end of semester reports, due to be published on the 4th July, the last day of term two. Please take the time to view these reports with your child to discuss and celebrate progress and look for opportunities for improvement. Learning Conferences are scheduled for the 13 th August and will be an opportunity to meet with teachers for deeper conversations regarding your child’s learning progress.

Students completing VCE will start their unit 2 and 4 programs beginning on Monday the 16th of June. This is significant for our year 12 classes and this marks the final units for completion in the VCE. The light is surely at the end of the tunnel now, and students should be embarking on a sturdy revision program in preparation for final exams.
