Roadsmart Incursion
On Wednesday 28th May our Year 10 students had a visit from Sarah and Ben from Road Smart. Road Smart Interactive is an evidence based, interactive road safety education program that is free for all Victorian Secondary Schools. It features elements which are adapted from Melbourne Museums "Road to Zero experience". This program is designed to reflect contemporary, best-practice approaches to road safety education. It utilises the latest immersive technology such as virtual reality headsets to guide students through a series of experiences that will engage students in thinking about how they can be part of the solution to eliminating road trauma.
DHS Rotten Ritin’ Competition – Winners Chosen!
A big thank you to everyone who took part in the 2025 DHS Rotten Ritin’ competition. From horrible haikus to twisted tales of bad grammar our school and community’s finest (and worst) writers came together to create some truly rotten masterpieces.
The creativity, and willingness to embrace the chaos of bad writing made this competition a delight. It was great to see so many students and community members having fun with language.
Winners and Dishonourable Mentions:
Community Poetry 1st Place
‘Drunken Dan’ – Bradley Calvert
Drunken Dan the Irishman
Hit his wife with a frying pan.
She rubbed her head and went to bed.
In the morning, she was dead.
The judge said: “Dan, here’s the plan,
wipe your tears, it’s thirty years.”
It’s clear to see that we should be
Instead of grog, be drinking – tea!
Community Story Starter 1st Place
‘The Eyes’ – Imogen Stewart
The eyes, oh the eyes, rolled backwards, trampled down and around the unending stairs of the mind while also having heard, as the eyes have eyes and ears to listen and to watch, the ears talk to themselves about the woman’s request to vacuum the floor for which the hands say nay, so the nays have it.
Student Poetry 1st Place
‘Windows’ – Liam Stopps
Windows are sigma.
They are dirty and clean things.
Windows can open.
Student Poetry Dishonourable Mention
‘I hate bald people’ – Nevaeh Pearse
I hate bald people,
how the sun shines from their head.
How ugly the haircut is,
how it shows the bumps and the craters.
How you see their head is grossss.
Student Story Starter 1st Place
‘A Strange Time’ – Jack Reilly
The sun shone through the dead of the night. All was still except the wind, animals and the sound of my airhorn. An airhorn that let out more of a quack than a blast. The night was rather bright but seeing was a challenge. All could be heard was a quack.
Student Story Starter Dishonourable Mention
‘And there I was’ – Darnell Clapham
And there I was covered in peanut butter and in a dead guy’s casket eating bread.
