Book Week and Book Character Costume Day

Our annual Book Week has been a huge success this week and it was sensational seeing students and Team Tally (staff) dressed up for Book Character Costume Day.  Book Week is a celebration of reading and we thank students, parents, carers, Team Tally and our P&C for supporting it.

Thank you to our P&C for running our Book Fair and all the fabulous volunteers who helped!

Students also enjoyed Book Week activities throughout the week such as Stop, Drop and Read and listening to a guest speaker who illustrates books.

Father’s Day Stall

One of the many ways that our P&C supports our school and families is by running our annual Father’s Day stall.  Vouchers are now on sale via Qkr until Friday 23 August (unless sold out prior).  Due to the need to organise gifts and vouchers, late purchases of vouchers will not be possible.  The stall will be held 28 and 29 August and vouchers will be delivered to classrooms prior to the stall visits.

If families are going through a financially difficult time, they are welcome to call Donna in our office by 21 August to let us know, so that we can see how we may be able to assist in relation to Father’s Day.

Thank you to our wonderful P&C volunteers for their hard work making this opportunity possible for our students!

UnBEElievable Science with Mrs Gordon

Year 6 students were enthralled learning about bees, wax and honey with Mrs Gordon last week.  Children learnt about how lip balm and bees wax wraps can be made through a demonstration and were able to take a lip balm home.

Lost Property

Unnamed items are accumulating in lost property, so students will be reminded to check for their belongings this week and if not claimed, unnamed items will be removed.  Lost property is regularly maintained and named items are returned to students via their teachers.  We ask that all hats, jumpers, drink bottles and lunch boxes are clearly labelled with a first and last name to allow easy return of misplaced items.

Active School Travel

Our Term 3 Active School Travel breakfast was a fun-filled morning!  Students enjoyed a healthy breakfast and some joined in some spontaneous dancing with our mascot, Tally Tiger and Zero the Hero, the Active School Travel mascot.

Once again, we are grateful for the generous support we receive for this event:

Thanks to very strong community and staff, we are able to offer a lovely spread for breakfast, prizes for participating students and free raffles for parents, carers and children.  We are grateful to:

  • The Lions Club Tallebudgera Volunteers - The makers of the best toast, EVER!
  • 19th Avenue Woolworths - for the very generous and regular donations of fresh fruit.
  • Bakers Delight - for donating the bread for the best toast EVER!
  • Team Tally - many staff volunteer their time and start at 6:30am to prepare for this event and work throughout.  Our Active School Travel Committee meet regularly to work on our participation in the Active School Travel program, that aims to reduce congestion in school zones and promotes exercise.
  • The City of Gold Coast for including us in the Active School Travel program and associated assistance.

Level Up

We were pleased to run our annual Level Up workshop for parents and carers of Year 6 students last week.  The Level Up program aims to support students to successfully navigate the transition from primary to high school and last week's workshop offered practical tips for families.  Year 6 have commenced their Level Up lessons and these will continue throughout the second semester.

Colour Explosion School Run 4 Fun

We are very excited about our upcoming Colour Explosion School Run 4 Fun.  This is our P&C's major fundraising event this year and money is being raised towards the long-term goal of installing another playground.

Additional information about how children can be eligible to participate has been sent home with children and via the online consent form.  We suggest that the reminder flyer be put on the fridge so that the important dates aren't missed.

If parents and carers would like to volunteer, we ask that they please complete the annual volunteer training by contacting our office at least two weeks before the event.

An enormous thank you to our P&C for coordinating this event and Team Tally members who are helping.
