Caritas: Project Compassion

Throughout the season of Lent in Term 1 this year, schools across the Sandhurst Diocese came together to support Project Compassion, raising an outstanding $108,000 while also building awareness of the challenges faced by those living in poverty.

Every contribution, no matter the size, was gratefully received and sincerely appreciated. Thank you to all who supported this important initiative. By uniting against poverty, we are helping to bring hope, dignity, and positive change to communities in need.

Together, we can make a difference.

At St Mary’s our school alone raised a significant contribution to this collective amount! Together we raised $4000.00. This is an average of just over $7 per learner.

The theme of Project Compassion was UNITE AGAINST POVERTY.

We certainly did.

Thank you!

G’day Weekday Mass

The Brennan Community (Years 5 & 6) hosted the G’day Weekday Mass this week and lead the congregation with reading and song. Once again this was a wonderful opportunity for us to gather as community with parents and parishioners. The lunch following Mass is always enjoyable with stories and recipes exchanged.

Season of Creation Mass

On Tuesday 1st September our Learning Leaders from Foundation to Year 2 will be representing St Mary’s at the Diocesan Mass at Huntly. This celebration will be particularly fitting for these representatives as they are currently exploring the Religious Education Unit about Creation and our need to care for all of it.

Year 4 Parent & child online Puberty information session

On Wednesday evening our Year 4 learners and their parents gathered online for an information session to support understanding around puberty and personal development. The evening also reminded each of us that we are part of God’s creation and we are made in the image and likeness of God. Every life is sacred and contains opportunities for each of us to make choices – choices which affect ourselves and others.

These learners were also supported by their classroom teachers. Following this hour information session, parents are encouraged to pursue the conversation further, continuing to support their child in this area.

Thank you parents and Year 4 classroom teachers for prioritising the time for yourselves and for your child/learners in the busyness of life and your day.

St Augustine’s Feast Day

On Friday 28th August we will celebrate the Feast of St Augustine, one of the four House communities in our school.

Saint Augustine of Hippo was a brilliant thinker, teacher, and church leader who lived over 1,600 years ago in North Africa. He wrote famous books about God, made big mistakes when he was young, but later changed his life to become one of history's most important saints.

On Friday 28th August, those learners who belong to St Augustine’s House may wear a splash of green, the colour we connect with for this important saint.
