Celebrating Book Week at Wollert Primary School!
What a wonderful Book Week we had at Wollert Primary School! Our school was filled with creativity, excitement and a shared love of reading as students celebrated their favourite books, characters and stories.
Our Book Week Parade was a huge success! Students and staff dressed up as much-loved book characters, bringing the pages of their favourite stories to life. It was fantastic to see the creativity and effort that went into the costumes, with everything from simple homemade creations to incredible character outfits.
The parade was a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate reading together and share their favourite stories with their friends and teachers. The excitement and smiles throughout the day showed just how much our students enjoyed being part of the celebration.
A huge thank you to our families, students and staff for helping make Book Week such a memorable event. We loved seeing our Wollert community come together to celebrate the joy of books and reading!

A Huge Thank You for Supporting Our Book Fair!
As many of you know, we have partnered with Lamont to bring our Book Fair to Wollert Primary School.
Thanks to the incredible support from our students and families, we achieved an amazing $4,752.00 in total sales! This meant that Wollert Primary School received $1,425.60 in commission to put towards new books for our library.
Before Lamont packed up, we got straight to work selecting new books to help replenish and grow our school library collection. We are so excited to add these new titles to our shelves and give our students even more wonderful books to enjoy!
A huge thank you to our families and school community for supporting the Book Fair and helping us continue to build a love of reading at Wollert Primary School.
Year 1 Phonics Check and Numeracy Check
Our Year 1 students have also been busy completing the Year 1 Phonics Check. This is a check that all Year 1 students in Victoria complete. It helps teachers understand how well students are developing their ability to read and sound out words using the letter and sound knowledge they have been learning.
Our Year 1 Teachers are also preparing for the Year 1 Numeracy Check. This provides information about students' understanding of important early mathematics skills. Teachers use this information, together with other assessment information, to plan learning that meets the needs of each student.
Learning Walks
Another exciting part of our work has been the introduction of Learning Walks across our school.
Learning Walks give teachers and leaders the opportunity to visit classrooms, see students learning and celebrate the great work happening across WPS. They also help us to understand how the teaching and learning practices we have been working on together are becoming part of everyday classroom practice.
During our recent Learning Walks in Years 3 to 6, we were particularly proud of what we saw. We Saw:
-engaged students
-clear classroom routines
-high expectations for learning and behaviour.
-students actively learning.
Most importantly, we saw growing consistency across our classrooms. This reflects the hard work of our teachers and the commitment they have shown to working together to improve learning for every student.
Our observers shared some wonderful reflections:
“It was excellent to go across the senior spaces and see engaged, ready-to-learn students in all classrooms!”
“The observations really highlighted to me that the whole feeling of our school is really building. It is clear that we have strong routines, clear behaviour expectations and a strong focus on learning. Incredible growth!”

We are very proud of the progress we are seeing across our school. This progress is the result of teachers working together, sharing ideas, learning from one another and keeping our students at the centre of our work.
We know there is always more to learn and improve, and we look forward to continuing this work together. Most importantly, we are excited to see the positive impact this is having on our students and their learning.
Together, we are continuing to build the Wollert Way: classrooms where students feel safe, understand what is expected, are ready to learn and are supported to do their best.
