Learning, growing and celebrating together...
Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,
We spend so much of the year watching children grow that we don't always notice time passing, until suddenly, we realise how much they have changed.
That striking yellow wattle is out, the roar of the lawnmowers, and the smell of freshly cut grass fills the air. There is a little extra light in the evenings, and the school holidays are nearly here. Spring is certainly in the air (albeit with a few 'usual' wet and rainy days thrown in). How did we get to September? How is this possible? It's quite ridiculous, as to just how fast the year seems to have gone.
As the year rolls along and towards the end of each term, it’s easy to forget all the things that we have enjoyed, achieved and celebrated. This term, some of these included:
Semester Two Leaders Presentation
Grandparents Day
School Tours
Sacrament of First Eucharist
First Aid in Schools Program
Year 3/4 Soccer Day
Book Fair
Book Week & Character Dress Up Parade
Parent/Teacher Chats
Father's Day Activities
Year One Experience
Sacrament of Confirmation
When you read the list above, it’s no wonder that we feel a little time-pressed. However, I don’t think we have lost time, perhaps we've simply been too busy to notice the time passing. Which it indeed has. Maybe this is just an adult thing? As you get older, does time seem to pass quicker? Or, does our brain's reaction and response differ, from when we were younger?
I say this, as I don’t feel as though children spend their days worrying about how quickly the term or year has disappeared. Children are far more interested in what is happening right now. They are busy learning, laughing, asking questions, making friends, solving problems and creating new and excitin things. Perhaps there is a lesson in that for all of us adults. As we approach the end of Term Three, rather than simply wondering where the time has gone, perhaps we should pause and appreciate where it has been.
It has been in classrooms. It has been in conversations. It has been in friendships. It has been in challenges overcome, mistakes made, lessons learned and achievements celebrated. It has been in the countless little moments that don't appear on a school calendar, but are actually the moments that make school such a special place. So, yes, Term Three may have disappeared at an alarming rate, but when we stop and look carefully, we realise that it hasn't really disappeared at all. It has morphed into memories for us all.
As we enter our last week of term, we look forward to our final week of activities. In particular, our Prep children cannot wait to get to the Melbourne Zoo, our Senior children eagerly await their Hoop Time day, and I know everyone is keen to enjoy a special Footy Lunch day supplied by our Parents’ Association, and don their Footy Colours on our final day of term.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend. Enjoy the last week of Term 3 and a well deserved school holiday break when the time arrives. May your holidays be fun and memorable, enjoyed at a slow and relaxing pace.
Kind Regards,
Ed Weekes
School Principal
