What a wonderful Book Week we have had! We were introduced to two fantastic books, The Emperor’s Egg by Rae Tan and Hunwick’s Egg by Mem Fox. We enjoyed exploring and comparing the two stories, looking closely at the characters, their feelings and the ways they cared for the eggs. Mr Forrest also visited during Book Week and read Green Eggs and Ham!

Our Foundation students even have their very own eggs sitting on their table! Mrs Annette knitted each child a wool nest for them to put their egg in. The children have been carefully looking after it and wondering what might hatch from them. We will have to wait and see!

In Maths, we have been learning about mass. We have been busy hefting different objects and using our hands to compare which objects feel heavy and which feel light. The children then created a data display to show and share what they discovered.

Over the last few weeks, we have been exploring different emotions in texts. Instead of just using words like happy and sad, we have been learning some new vocabulary to help us explain how a character might be feeling. Ms Robyn came in and read The Emperor’s Egg to us, and we were able to discuss some different emotions, including disappointment.

In Maths, we are currently working on division and learning how to share things equally into groups.

In Inquiry, we are continuing to explore families and how families have changed over time.

We also had cooking, where we got to make some delicious ABC (apple, banana and carrot) muffins! A big thank you to Mrs Woodman for taking us for cooking and helping us make them.

A great job to everyone who dressed up for Book Week, everyone looked amazing! We have now started our Reading Marathon, which runs from Weeks 7–9 of this term. We encourage everyone to read as much as they can over these weeks and remember to have their diary signed by an adult, including the number of minutes read. There will be prizes for the students who read the most!

We have a busy end to the term coming up:

  • Friday 4th September – Pyjama Day. Come dressed in your pyjamas and bring a gold coin donation.
  • Friday 4th September – Father’s Day/Special Person Stall.
  • Tuesday 8th September – R U OK? Day. Dress in yellow and bring a plain white shirt to change into for the colour run with 3A and 3B, along with some other fun activities.

Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to make meals from different countries. A special mention to Mrs Jo for buying all the ingredients; thanks, Jo. The highlights were the Maltese Christmas cake from Jackson Guelfo and Lucas George, the Singapore Fried Rice from Elijah Pacheco and Chelsea Parker, and the Australian Milo cookies from Lucy Turnbull and Belle Derks. The opportunity to cook and bake has increased our knowledge of food safety and the importance of cooking. Another shoutout to Mr Goggin and Mrs T for organising this opportunity.

Year 6 to 7 transition (Half Day)

Today, Year 6s from Inglewood and Wedderburn had a half day as Year 7s. First, Mr Lockhart gave us a tour around the places we will be using in the future in Year 7. Then we had some lessons with different teachers, like Digi Tech with Mr BrayBook, Wellbeing with Mr Forrest, and an expected behaviour lesson. Overall, it was pretty fun, and we got to socialise with others from a different school.

Performance next week! That’s right! Our primary students are performing a dance at the our assembly next week, Tuesday period 2B. They have been working very hard on this dance. Remembering choreography for an entire song is a challenge, but one that our primary students are not shying away from. We would love to see as many families there as possible to support them.

Year 11 Update – Three Weeks to Go!

It’s hard to believe we have just three weeks remaining in Term 3! There is still plenty happening around the College, so let’s make the most of the final few weeks.

Last week we celebrated Book Week, and it was fantastic to see so many students dressing up for our annual parade. The Reading Olympics are now well and truly underway, so make sure you are logging your reading minutes – remember, every minute counts! Keep an eye on Compass for upcoming events, including the Reading Triathlon this week. Every minute you read could make the difference for your house!

This Friday is PJ Day, so roll out of bed, throw on your favourite PJs and come along with a gold coin donation. Hopefully you’ve got your order in to get a cupcake at recess!

We’ve also got a huge Youth Week coming up next week, with plenty of great activities planned. Make sure you get involved and make the most of what’s on offer. As always, keep checking Compass for all the details and updates.

A big well done also to our VM students, who continue to do a fantastic job with their Structured Workplace Learning. It has been great hearing about the different experiences they’ve been having in the workforce, the skills they’re developing and the jobs they’ve been getting involved in. Keep up the great work!

Mr G’s Study Tip – Don’t Let the End of Term Become the End of Your Effort!

With only three weeks remaining, it can be tempting to start switching into holiday mode a little early. Don’t!

Take five minutes at the start of each week to check what SACs, assessments and work you still have coming up. Break everything into smaller jobs and aim to complete one important task each day rather than leaving everything until the last minute.

Three strong weeks now = a much more relaxing holiday later!

“You don’t have to be perfect – just keep moving forward.”

VM students are heading to Melvilles Caves on Friday to enjoy a day of leadership and to celebrate our Year 12s for nearing the end of their schooling journey. Term 3 has seen them finish up their volunteering at Donaldson Park, which was a strong connection the students have developed with a local community group. On Fridays, they have been working on renovating the cubby house. They have been sanding, pressure washing, replacing boards, gap filling, cleaning and ordering supplies to give the cubby house the makeover it deserves! During their personal health unit, students have been enjoying the Mountain Bike track on site, and once they’ve finished their rides, they perform general maintenance on the bikes.

Year 12 Update

Year 12 – The Final Chapter!

Four weeks.

Yep. You read that correctly.

Once we get through this week, there are just FOUR weeks left until SWATVAC, exams and the final stretch of your Year 12 journey. Somehow, the year that once seemed like it would take approximately 47 years has suddenly disappeared!

Whether you're completing VCE, VCE VM, heading into further study, an apprenticeship, employment, a gap year, travel or still figuring out exactly what comes next, you're now approaching the end of a pretty significant chapter.

And yes… it is time to knuckle down.

The home stretch is here

The next few weeks are about putting your energy into the things that matter.

For our VCE students, that might mean SACs, revision, practice questions, exams and making the most of every opportunity to consolidate your learning.

For our VCE VM students, there are still plenty of important tasks, projects, workplace learning, VET commitments and evidence to complete as you work towards your own finish line.

Different pathways. Different goals. Same message: keep moving forward.

You don't need to suddenly become the world's most organised, motivated and productive human being. In fact, we'd probably be suspicious if you did.

But you do need to keep showing up.

Attend your classes. Get your work done. Ask questions. Use your teachers. Stay on top of deadlines. Put your phone down occasionally. Maybe even open that document you've been avoiding since August.

Every little bit counts.

And then… there's life AFTER Year 12

While finishing well is important, this is also the time to start looking towards what comes next.

For some of you, the next chapter is already mapped out. For others, the map is currently more of a rough sketch on the back of a napkin.

And that's okay.

You don't have to know exactly where you'll be in five years. Your pathway might change. You might discover something you hadn't considered. You might change your mind completely.

That's part of growing up.

The important thing is to start thinking about what you enjoy, what you're good at, what matters to you and what sort of future you would like to build.

There is a big world waiting for you beyond these school gates.

But first… look after YOU

The final stretch can be exciting, exhausting, stressful and occasionally a little chaotic. So while you're chasing that finish line, don't forget to look after the person doing the running.

For your body:

  • Sleep. Seriously. Your brain is not designed to function on four hours and a Red Bull.
  • Eat properly. Your brain needs actual food, not just whatever you can find at the bottom of your school bag.
  • Move. Walk, exercise, play sport, get outside or just have a stretch.
  • Drink water. Your water bottle is there for a reason!
  • Take breaks. You don't get bonus marks for studying continuously for six hours without looking up.

For your mind:

  • Take things one step at a time. Don't worry about everything that needs doing. Focus on what needs doing today.
  • Talk to someone. If things feel too much, don't keep it to yourself. Your teachers, friends, family and support staff are there to help.
  • Remember what you're working towards. Keep your bigger goals in sight.
  • Give yourself permission to rest. Rest isn't being lazy. Sometimes your brain needs to recharge.
  • Be kind to yourself. You are allowed to have a bad day. One bad SAC, one missed deadline or one difficult week does not define you.
  • Keep some perspective. Year 12 is important – but it is not the entirety of your life.

So… four weeks.

Four weeks to give it your best.

Four weeks to finish things you're proud of.

Four weeks to support the people around you.

Four weeks to look after yourself.

And four weeks to start getting excited about the next chapter.

The finish line is getting closer, Year 12.

Stay focused. Stay connected. Look after yourselves. Keep going.

You've come too far to coast now.

Let's finish this thing!
