Proud of Our Staff 

Last week I was lucky enough to present two sessions at the SPERA (Society for Provision of Education in Rural Australia) National conference in Ballarat.  It was great positive experience to also have Mr Lockhart, Mr Pettifer and Miss Milne present an engaging session of our SWPBS journey, and Mr Iser present our Learning Model/Active Learning on the final day of the .conference.   A principal from NSW sat in on our sessions and was thoroughly impressed. He mentioned that he had heard great things were going on at Wedderburn College. Representatives from the Education Department were also glowing of the sessions that the teams delivered.  This positive feedback is certainly very much appreciated, so well done to everyone at school and our presenters at the conference. It is the team effort that makes the difference.

Round Robin Netball

Well done to students and staff for a sensational game of Round Robin Netball on Monday. The staff team narrowly winning thanks to the deadly shooting of Ms Haley. Thanks  to the umpires, Lara and Kayla for doing a great job too.

Don't forget the 'biggest' week is coming up next week. So, be sure to attend everyday, you won't want to miss out!

Right to Switch Off

Under Australia's Federal Fair Work Act, employees in Victoria have the legal right to disconnect, allowing them to refuse to monitor, read, or respond to work-related contact outside their working hours. 

Subject to the considerations set out above, contact may be reasonable if it relates to matters that are urgent or time sensitive and cannot reasonably wait until the particular employee returns to work, such as in the case of an emergency or critical incident, notifying employees of timetable or roster changes, conducting welfare checks for employees, or confirming an employee’s return to work arrangements.

Principals and managers (including those in central and regional locations) must respect the right of staff to disconnect from work-related communications outside of their working hours. Such communications may include phone calls, emails, texts, social media, and messaging services. The right to disconnect legislation makes explicit that all employees have the right to refuse to monitor, read, listen to or respond to contact that occurs outside their working hours from their employer or a third party (such as a student or a parent), unless that refusal is unreasonable.

A Gentle Reminder  Mobile Phones are  Banned 

Unfortunately a number of students have decided to break the current mobile phone bans.  If your child breaks these rules they will have their phone confiscated and further bans will be in place.  Here is a reminder of the Rules for Public Schools:

• Stored All Day: Phones must be turned off and put away (usually in lockers) from the first bell to the final bell.  If students have broken the mobile phone policy they have to hand devices to the front office before the first bell in the morning.
• Break Times Included: Students cannot use their phones during recess or lunchtime.

• Emergency Contact: Parents who need to reach their child in an emergency must call the school office.

On Leave
