Sacrament of Confirmation

This Sunday, our Year 6 students, alongside students from our parish, will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation is a special sacrament in which we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit and deepen our relationship with God. It reminds us that we are called to live out our faith with courage, love and confidence, sharing God’s gifts with those around us.

Confirmation Family Faith Night

On Wednesday evening, we welcomed our Confirmation candidates and their families into school for a Family Faith Night. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, learn more about the Sacrament and prepare for this important celebration in their faith journey.

Year 6 Confirmation Feast Day

Today, our Year 6 students enjoyed a special Reflection Day as they prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend. The students took part in team building activities, created their own beautiful stained-glass windows, read special letters from their families and spent time in the church practising for their Confirmation ceremony. Tomorrow, the students will have the opportunity to meet Fr Tony Kerin, Vicar General, who will speak with them about the Sacrament of Confirmation and answer any questions they may have. It has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to reflect, prepare and grow in their faith.

Thank you to all the families who attended and to our wonderful Year 6 teaching team, Peter Tyndall, Tania Thompson and Amanda Norton, for their support and preparation of our students. We wish our Confirmation candidates every blessing as they receive this special sacrament on Sunday.

Gospel Reflection - Sunday 11th of October

Gospel Reading

Matthew 22:1-14 (shorter form Matthew 22:1-10)

Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a wedding feast.

Family Connection

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of a wedding feast to remind us that God invites everyone to share in His love and Kingdom. The invitation is freely given, but we are each called to choose how we respond.

The wedding feast helps us think about how we prepare for something that is important to us. When we are invited to a special celebration, we often take time to prepare, choosing what to wear and thinking about how we will participate. In the same way, accepting God’s invitation calls us to prepare our hearts and to let His love shape the way we live.

When we say “yes” to God, we are called to show this through our actions by being loving, kind, forgiving, generous and respectful towards others.

Family Discussion

Then read Matthew 22:1–14 together.

Talk about:

  1. Why do you think some people refused the invitation to the wedding feast?
  2. How can we show God that we have accepted His invitation?
  3. What are some ways we can show God’s love through our actions each day?

Family Prayer

Together you may like to prayer:

Loving God,

Thank you for inviting each of us to share in your love. Help us to say 'yes' to you each day and to show our love through the way we treat others. May our words and actions reflect your kindness, compassion and love. Help us to open our hearts to your invitation and to live as people of faith, hope and love.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

You may also like to pray together with Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.”
