We were proud to celebrate the launch of Ganbold and the Magic Pie, a bilingual English and Mongolian children’s book created by a group of our 2025 Year 6 students.

Inspired by traditional Mongolian stories shared with them as children, the students worked together to write, edit, translate and illustrate their own story. They dedicated many lunch breaks, afternoons and weekends to bringing the book to life, combining their creativity with a desire to share and preserve stories from their culture.

The book follows two mischievous twins whose search for a special pie ingredient leads to a mysterious berry—and a magical runaway pie! Their older brother, Ganbold, must use his tracking skills to find the missing pie before it is lost forever.

Written in both English and Mongolian, Ganbold and the Magic Pie was created to support English learning, encourage a love of reading and help Mongolian children continue reading and connecting with their language and culture.

A special thank you goes to the Rotary Club of Ryde, whose generous support sponsored the publication of the book and gave our students the incredible opportunity to see their work become a professionally published book. We are extremely grateful for their support in helping our students share their stories, language and culture with the wider community.

Copies of Ganbold and the Magic Pie will be available to borrow from our school library, local street libraries and Ryde Library. We encourage students and families to look out for a copy and enjoy this very special story created by members of our Meadowbank community.
