STAFFING UPDATE
Mrs Karen Milkovic has commenced her Maternity Leave and we wish her all the best as she and her husband Dean prepare for the arrival of their first child. Miss Georgia Burston has taken over fulltime as the classroom teacher. Georgia has been working closely with Karen throughout Term 1, to ensure a seamless transition for the children in Year 4.
SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS TERM 2
Catholic schools throughout the Melbourne Archdiocese have been invited to be part of a curriculum program called Flourishing Learners. Through the Flourishing Learners program, schools are encouraged to use evidence-based teaching resources and high impact teaching strategies. The program also strongly recommends the regular use of assessment data to identify starting points for student learning, to drive teaching and to monitor student growth. At St John’s we are well placed to join the Flourishing Learners Project as our Junior Literacy Program (InitiaLit) and our whole school assessment tools (from the PAT Assessment Suite) are those recommended by the program.
As part of our involvement in the Flourishing Learners program, all staff are required to attend a training day on Friday April 26th. This will be the first of our two school closure days for Term 2. Our second closure day will focus around Staff Wellbeing and will be held on Friday 24th May.
Parents needing child care on either of these school closure days are encouraged to contact Quantin Binnah soon, and register their interest. Quantin Binnah can be contacted on 9742 5040.
PARENT HELP NEEDED FOR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES
Mrs Angela Anderson who leads Learning and Teaching here at St John’s, is organising a mini library for each year level, so that students have access to a range of reading materials. She is needing help to cover all these resources in contact to assist in preserving them and is inviting any parents available to join her in the community space near the office on Thursday 18th April or Thursday 2nd May at 2:30 for a "Cuppa and Contacting" session prior to school pick up. Angela is looking for as many parents as possible to help.
2024 SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION
An important aspect of preparing for any Sacrament is to attend Mass each weekend. Fr Albert is encouraging every child in the Parish of St Andrew’s who is preparing to celebrate a sacrament this year, to attend Mass regularly, to receive God’s abundant graces.
Children preparing for their First Confession, First Holy Communion or to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year, have received a Mass Journal as part of their Sacramental preparation. The Journal is an easy way for families to record the Masses they attend throughout the year. Please remember to take a pen to Mass so the priest can sign your Journal for you at the end of Mass.
Below is a list of the Sacramental Dates for 2024, which includes the dates of Practise Nights and Parent Information Sessions:
ST JOHN THE APOSTLE COMMUNITY MASSES
Throughout the year we will be holding several weekend Masses, here in the school Hall. All families are warmly invited to attend these Masses. Please check the poster below for which months we will be holding a Mass.
SUBWAY LUNCH ORDERS
The school will continue our partnership with Subway this year. This initiative provides students with an opportunity to receive a ‘lunch order’, that families have ordered and paid for online, prior to the day. The Canteen Hub platform allows parents to place orders for student/s for the whole term.
Orders must be placed by 5pm the Wednesday prior.
