Child Safety

Our commitment to keeping every child safe, supported, and heard

The Child Safe Standards are compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian early childhood services and schools. They help ensure we are well prepared to protect children from abuse and neglect. At our school, we see child safety as a shared responsibility and we value the voice of our community. We welcome your input and feedback to help us continually strengthen our processes and practices, so every child feels safe, supported, and respected.

At Roxburgh Homestead Primary School, our Child Safety Champions play an important role in strengthening a culture where every student feels safe, supported, and heard.

The Child Safety Champions are staff members and student leaders who take an active role in promoting child safe practices across the school community. They help make sure that child safety is not just a policy, but something visible in everyday actions, conversations, and decisions. This includes encouraging respectful relationships, supporting students to speak up if something does not feel right, and helping to ensure all adults and students understand their responsibilities in keeping one another safe.

A key part of their role is being a trusted point of contact. Students and families know they can approach a Child Safety Champion if they have concerns, questions, or need support. They also work closely with school leadership to monitor wellbeing trends, promote safe online and offline behaviours, and support the ongoing implementation of child safety standards across the school.

The Child Safety Champions also lead awareness initiatives throughout the year. This may include classroom discussions, school wide reminders, wellbeing activities, and contributing to newsletter updates so the community stays informed and engaged. Their work helps ensure child safety remains a shared responsibility and a constant priority.

By having Child Safety Champions embedded within our school community, Roxburgh Homestead Primary School continues to build a proactive and transparent approach to student wellbeing. Their presence strengthens trust, encourages open communication, and supports a school environment where every child can thrive safely.
