PRAYER
In the Catholic Church, the month of October is dedicated to the prayer, the Rosary. The Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7 each year. Pope St. Pius V established this feast to thank God for the naval victory at the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571, which the Pope attributed to the power of praying the Rosary. Later in the 1800s Pope Leo XIII strongly promoted the entire month of October for Rosary devotions through a series of encyclicals, encouraging people to pray it daily for peace and the protection of the Church.
If you’ve ever wondered how to pray the Rosary or what each bead on a set of Rosary Beads is for, the diagram below may help you to understand this very special prayer. If you don’t have time to say the whole Rosary, a great way is to begin by trying to say a decade of the Rosary each day for nine days in a row. To say a single decade you begin with one Our Father, follow this with 10 Hail Mary’s and finish by saying the Glory Be.
