VCE VM Community Awareness Day
The Year 11 VCE VM students have been hard at work in preparation for Community Awareness Day, a local initiative aimed at spotlighting critical issues such as poverty, homelessness, racism, and the challenges faced by young mothers in the Latrobe Valley.
On Thursday, October 31st, the students took their efforts to the streets of Churchill, embarking on a three-hour Continuous Walk to raise awareness and engage the community. Beginning at 10 a.m. from the Churchill Community Hub on Phillip Parade, the event symbolized solidarity and a commitment to making a difference in their region.
To complement their walk, the students showcased their culinary skills by preparing a Community Soup Lunch, open to all members of the public. This gesture of hospitality aimed to bring the community together and highlight the importance of collective action in addressing social challenges.
Community Awareness Day is a testament to the power of youth-driven initiatives in sparking meaningful change. By focusing on vital local issues, the students hope to foster understanding, compassion, and actionable solutions to improve the lives of those most affected in the Latrobe Valley.
Residents were encouraged to attend the event, lend their support, and enjoy a warm bowl of soup while connecting with others who share a vision for a more inclusive and supportive community.
