We are quickly coming to the end of the school year, and everyone is looking forward to the final few events and activities before the holidays commence. As can been seen below the University Campus has been busy combining the end of the 2024 academic year and making a start on the 2025 year.

Year 12 Graduation Ceremony

Our Year 12 students had the opportunity to reflect and be acknowledged for achieving the completion of their secondary schooling at the Graduation Ceremony held at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre recently. It was a fantastic event with students receiving their completion certificates in front of their families, friends and peers. School Captains Gabby, Brayden and Harry spoke on behalf of the Year 12 cohort and recounted some of their highlights over their journey. The audience were also privileged to hear musical performances from Year 11 students Lexie and Darnell and two great songs from Year 12 student Senja. Campus Leaders spoke of the achievements of the students and wished them all the very best with future endeavours.

Year 12 Prep Camp

This year’s Year 11 students had the opportunity to attend a Year 12 Preparation Camp in Melbourne last week. This has become an important element of preparing the group for what is to come and builds on the importance of everyone supporting each other to achieve success. A powerful presentation by Youth Mentor Eric Agyeman had everyone talking and more than a few feeling emotionally moved by the participation in the workshop that followed. Other activities also provided students insight into how to do well next year and time to build positive connections.

Thank you to all the staff who attended the camp and ensured everyone was well looked after and the camp was a success.

Headstart

Our Headstart program is well underway, and we have welcomed the Year 10 students from Morwell, Churchill, and FLO campuses in to the University campus, as well as many students new to Kurnai joining us for Years 11 & 12. After a short assembly on Monday they were soon into classes and beginning to become familiar with their subjects for next year and the expectations that will lead them to being successful senior students. The Headstart program will finish on Friday 6th December.

College Celebration Day

We are looking forward to relaxing and having plenty of fun at Gumbuya world at the College Celebration Day on Wednesday 11th December. This has been a great time in the past for students and staff to enjoy a day together as an acknowledgement of the all the hard work and effort that has gone into the year and we hope the weather will be kind.

College Awards

The College awards will be presented on Friday 13th December in the auditorium at Federation University. All students are invited to attend and the families of those receiving awards will also be contacted and invited to attend. This is a special occasion to end our school year and provides an opportunity for our students across all the years of secondary school to be recognised for outstanding achievements.

Thanks

As we come to the end of the year I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our school community for their efforts this year. Thank you to the students who have worked through the year to reach the point where their achievements are now formally acknowledged, thank you to the families who have supported the students and the school throughout this year and the many years before. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the University campus who have tirelessly dedicated time and effort into supporting the learning and maturing of the young people we work with every day. Thank you also to the community that supports our campus and students through work placements, mentoring, providing opportunities for excursions, mock interviews, and the many other forms of assistance from which our students benefit. It is this combined effort and care that enable our students to succeed.

On behalf of the staff at University campus, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday and look forward to returning next year for a brilliant 2025!
