Teaching and Learning

From Ms Lehre and Mr Sait P-1

Students from the P/1 room really enjoyed visiting Scienceworks earlier in the term! During this excursion we joined in a visit to the Planetarium and Lightning Theatre, had a look around the different exhibits and enjoyed learning about how Roller Coasters work during an engineering workshop. This term we have been learning all about Space, Earth and the Solar System so it was great to visit during this time.

Bendigo Writers Festival

We had an amazing day at the Bendigo Writers Festival, then enjoyed some tasty pizza and playtime at the park.

The writer’s festival was a super exhilarating experience for me and many others that went as well. Meeting Matt Stanton and Stephen Herrick was a wonderful thing that the 3-6s did.

The first session was with Matt. We sat in the front row on the right, where he talked about where his surname came from, spoiler alert, his great grandpa got it from a shop somewhere. He also talked about his books, Julius Ceasar and other things that would take me too long to put into detail. When we got to the questions there were 3 fortunate people who were chosen, and one of them was me. My question was: “What’s your favourite book you’ve ever read or written?” Ironically, I don’t remember the answer.

Next was Stephen. He read his poems and they were the absolute most humorous things I’ve ever heard someone read out. It’s funny how hard simple words can make you laugh. My favourite poem of his was the one about 10 things teachers would never say. You might be wondering how absurd it was, I’ll tell you, a lot. Sadly, I didn’t get to ask a question, but that’s alright. There were some dark humoured jokes put in the mix as well, but you had to pay close attention to understand them.

The whole experience was lots of fun, and I’d love to go again next year.
