New - Digby Barnes Represents St Mary's
Recently, Digby Barnes (5JM)proudly represented St Mary’s at the Boost Mobile Australian MTB Interschools Championships held in Thredbo, New South Wales. Competing against some of the best young riders from across the country, Digby took part in three challenging events across the week.
Digby first competed in The FOX Flow, a fast-paced, non-technical race that features jumps and berms along a flowing course. Unfortunately, Digby was held up behind some slower riders during his run and wasn’t able to get a completely clean run. Despite this, he still finished a very respectable 70th out of 155 riders.
Next up was the Maxxis Pump Track Challenge, which tests riders’ skill, balance and stamina as they pump, double and manual around the track without pedalling. Digby performed strongly in the qualifying rounds and successfully made it through to the final, where he finished 23rd out of 83 riders — a fantastic result against a very competitive field.
Digby’s final event was the RockShox Downhill, widely regarded as one of the most exciting and demanding races of the championships. The course is a high-speed, technical downhill track featuring rock gardens, rough chutes and large jumps, designed for advanced riders only. Digby put together an excellent run, finishing 21st out of 115 riders.
Considering there are very few hills around Shepparton, Digby’s results are an outstanding achievement. Representing St Mary’s on the national stage is something to be incredibly proud of.
Congratulations Digby on an amazing effort!
New - Christopher Jacques represents St Mary's
Christopher Jacques (2FD) competed in The Scots School Interschools Equestrian qualifier last Thursday & Friday in Albury on his pony - Tradie.
He has now qualified for the State event to be held during the April School holidays at Boneo on the Mornington Peninsula.
We are very proud of Christopher's amazing effort, as Mum Phillipa, mentioned that his pony - Tradie, was very cheeky & did not make his ride easy, but displaying persistence and resilience, Christopher kept on trying & didn't give up, even with very hot conditions.
Christopher also tried a number of new events & was competing with 35 other riders in his division.
