Supreme Court :
VCE Year 12 Legal Studies students visited the Supreme Court of Victoria. They observed a live case in action in the old High Court of Australia, with newly appointed Kings Counsel Barristers. We met with a Supreme Court Judge who answered student questions based on his role and cases he had made rulings on. A tour of Supreme Court library was fascinating as it included an enormous wealth of legal cases, books, historical artefacts, the original Ned Kelly Judgement and a book dating back to the 1400s. Students were able to explore the library to gain an understanding of how the legal profession and courts operate.
Parliament of Victoria :
VCE Legal Studies students visited the Parliament of Victoria. They were met by our local Mordialloc representative, Minister Tim Richardson. This was a highlight for students who engaged in question time with Mr. Richardson, asking about the representative nature of his role, responsible government, law-making and the bicameral nature of our Victorian parliament. We were fortunate enough to enjoy some delicious treats in the courtyard before participating in a tour and role play in the houses of parliament. “It was fun, we got to see how parliament works and meeting Tim was cool” were the common reactions of students.
