Staffing Update

I realise that some families may be curious about some recent staffing changes that have occurred at school, please allow me to share some information:

  • Anna Davey left us in Term 2 to go on Maternity Leave; those classes have been taken on by Suzanna Nikolovski, an experienced VCE Legal teacher who has already had great success with our students both in class, and on her extracurricular visits to the Supreme Court, and Parliament.
  • Kym Lenc left us in Term 2 to go on Maternity Leave. As we knew Kym was leaving, we repeatedly advertised for this role from February 2024 but did not find a suitable candidate. As such, the majority of those classes were distributed to other Mordialloc College teachers, with some of those classes being covered by long-term CRTs: all of these lessons will continue to be planned by Matt Smith (HPE Learning Area Leader).
  • Ebony Powell left us in Term 3 to go on Maternity Leave. Those classes were distributed to other Mordialloc College teachers.
  • Jamie Towsey left us in Term 3 to go on Maternity Leave. As we knew Jamie was leaving, we repeatedly advertised for this role from February 2024 but did not find a suitable candidate. As such, the majority of those classes were distributed to other Mordialloc College teachers, with some of those classes being covered by long-term CRTs: all of those lessons will continue to be planned by the English Learning Area team.
  • Alex Lam joined us as a graduate teacher of English and Humanities.
  • Teagan Williams joined us as a graduate teacher of English and Humanities; she is currently on a pre-planned trip but will be back Week 5.
  • Vicky Vrettos left us to go on Long Service Leave for Term 3; Calen Robinson has picked up her classes, as well as other Media classes across the school. Calen is an experienced Media teacher and has already thrown himself into supporting us with the design of our Venture magazine.

As you know, Australia is still in the midst of a teacher recruitment crisis, something that we at Mordialloc College are not immune to. Where we do have an advantage is in our ability to source and keep long-term CRTs; those teachers are always delighted to secure a place at Mordialloc College, and to work with us to achieve success in the classes that they teach.

  • Paige Remfrey (English and Humanities specialist) has been with us for over a year, and has planned, taught and assessed the classes that she has been teaching throughout that time.
  • Erica Deveson (SEP Basketball, HPE specialist) has been with us for over eight months, and has planned, taught and assessed the classes that she has been teaching throughout that time. As an experienced basketball coach, Erica has also supported our staff in the delivery of SEP basketball. Erica is currently back in Canada for a pre-planned trip however, when she returns next week, she will be back in HPE for the remainder of the year.

Kind regards,

Rachael Stone
