CyberPowers Industry Immersion Inspires Future Cybersecurity Leaders.

Students from Yarrabing Secondary College recently had the exciting opportunity to participate in the CyberPowers Industry Immersion Pilot Day, hosted by Ballarat Tech School in partnership with Monash Tech School, RMIT University, and Accenture.

The immersive program, held on Friday 28 August, was specifically designed for girls and students who identify as female in Years 7-10. The experience explored the important human side of cybersecurity, encouraging students to develop the skills and mindsets needed to navigate today's increasingly digital world.

Throughout the day, students discovered that successful cybersecurity is about far more than technology alone. They explored how essential qualities such as empathy, patience, critical thinking, and effective communication can help address cyber challenges and support safer online communities.

The program provided opportunities for students to:

  • Investigate the human-centred approaches used to manage cybersecurity risks and strengthen online safety.

  • Develop valuable personal "superpowers" that help overcome fear, uncertainty, and misinformation surrounding cybersecurity.

  • Explore the important role mathematics plays in real-world cybersecurity scenarios.

  • Engage in meaningful discussions about career pathways in cybersecurity with industry professionals, researchers, PhD students, and professors from RMIT University's School of Science.

A particular highlight of the day was the student panel session with female leaders in the cybersecurity field. Our students impressed the panel with their curiosity, confidence, and insightful questions, demonstrating both their enthusiasm and potential as the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

The CyberPowers experience provided an inspiring glimpse into the diverse opportunities available within cybersecurity and empowered our students to see how their unique strengths can make a positive impact in an ever-evolving digital world.
