From the Principal

Hello Gympie East parents, carers and community,

We have had a great fortnight of learning. This last week, I visited another primary school to talk to other Principals about how their schools are progressing with the implementation of Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. It was terrific to see how they are implementing their plans and their thought process. On my return, I am this week sitting with each of our classroom teachers and discussing with them how they are progressing with the Version 9 implementation and talking about how they are teaching reading while catering for the many diverse learners that exist in each class. There is obviously a lot of synergy between teachers as they are all in line with our school's Annual Implementation Plan. But they also bring their own strengths and knowledge to their individual style of teaching, and I was privileged to be able to listen to how they are adjusting learning for their own class. 

In PBL this week, we have been focussed on 'Having a Growth Mindset'. Having a growth mindset means believing that your abilities can be developed through effort and learning. It contrasts with a fixed mindset, where one believes their abilities are unchangeable. Key characteristics of a growth mindset include viewing challenges as opportunities rather than threats, embracing feedback as a tool for improvement and persisting in the face of difficulties. Next week, we will focus on 'Staying Within Boundaries'. This is not a huge problem area for us at Gympie East but it is still important to be clear with where the school boundaries are and the importance of being safe by being in the correct area. 

As we approach the business end of term, I would encourage parents to please work with classroom teachers to ensure students are at school as much as possible and have had a nutritious breakfast. Every day that is missed is an opportunity missed to help them prepare for end of semester assessments.
