Major Events Calendar
Between now an December, a lot of events and activities are planned at BSC! As we move through Semester 2, students and families are reminded that they can visit the BSC website calendar to check the dates of major school events and term dates, while more specific excursions and events will be advertised via Compass and Teams newsfeeds.
Respectful Relationships
Work on Respectful Relationships continues to progress well. We have completed surveys with students, staff, and parents, and are now in the process of collating and analysing the data. This information will inform the development of a tailored curriculum for implementation in 2026. This is an important and strategic initiative, strongly supported by the Department of Education.
In the final week of last term, staff engaged in professional learning focused on fostering healthier attitudes and behaviours. Our next steps will continue in alignment with the Department’s program goals, initiatives, and available supports.
Mamma Mia! What a Production!
Mamma Mia!proved to be a triumph — with sold-out shows and rave reviews that reflected the strong community interest and support for the production.
The energy on stage was matched by the dedication behind the scenes, with students and staff working hand-in-hand to bring the story to life, and all the while the band kept our toes tapping!
From the first note to the final bow, the show sparkled with energy, heart, and humour. Students and staff poured their passion into every detail, creating a dazzling celebration of music, colour, and camaraderie that had audiences on their feet and humming all the way home. The result was a vibrant, joyful celebration of talent, teamwork, and creativity!

50th Anniversary of NAIDOC Week
BSC marked the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week with a powerful and meaningful smoking ceremony on . The event provided our school community with an opportunity to come together in recognition and respect, as well as a significant moment for our community to reflect on and engage with the rich traditions, culture, and stories of First Nations peoples.
Our students were both respectful and attentive and well prepared, see the article in this issue. We extend our thanks to Colin for delivering the Welcome to Country, which was deeply appreciated by all. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme -The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy - celebrates the enduring legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while looking ahead to a future shaped by young leaders, community vision, and ancestral strength.
Learning Pathways
Information Evenings
Thank you to the many students and families who attended the Year 10 2026 and Year 11 2026 Information Evenings. These information sessions were a valuable opportunity for families to engage with us to understand senior school learning pathways and subject offerings available at BSC. Subject selection requires significant consideration by students, as the decisions they make will shape their options at the end of six years of secondary education, and open doors to the many and varied opportunities that await when school finishes.
Subject Selection Interview Day
Subject selection interviews were conducted on Wednesday 13 August for our Year 10 families. It was wonderful to speak in person or online with students and parents/carers in a guided discussion to ensure subject selections met students strengths, interests and requirements for entry to future pathways beyond school. Each Year 10 student, along with their parent/carer, met with a senior staff member to finalise their subject selections. These meetings provided time for deep consideration of how students constructed their learning programs and enabled students and parents to feel confident and intentional when submitting their subject choices.
Information regarding curriculum can be found on the BSC Curriculum website.
Guitar Ensembles
On August 12, our Senior and Junior Guitar Ensembles took part in the inaugural StrumFest Guitar Ensemble Festival at Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School. The event brought together student guitarists from all across Melbourne to share performances and celebrate the art of playing in an ensemble.
Each of our ensembles had rehearsed set pieces prior to the event, as had students from all other schools. Joining together, roughly 100 guitarists in attendance formed one huge, combined ensemble. The group tackled arrangements by Herbie Hancock as well as Madison Cunningham tunes.
Strumfest was a fantastic opportunity to connect with other young musicians in a vibrant and supportive atmosphere, so congratulations to our students for stepping up to the challenge.
