Sustainability Update 🌿

This week we held our very first Environment Leader meeting, and what a fantastic way to start — out in the veggie garden! Our Environment Leaders rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into pulling out the old vegetable crops and tidying the garden beds in preparation for planting next week. They showed excellent teamwork and collaboration, especially when tackling the deep-rooted corn plants. A great effort all round!

Our Gardening Club has also been busy prepping the soil and composting to make sure our garden beds are nutrient-rich and ready for new life. Thanks to their hard work, we were able to plant red cabbage, lettuce, beans and snow peas in the veggie beds. We also had a visit from Viv from Bunnings who worked with our Environment Leaders to plant some more seedlings and some flowering seeds.

Some of our Year 6 Gardening Club members even discovered a few mystery plants growing in the planter boxes — these were carefully potted up so we can see what they turn out to be! We also added some colourful flowering plants to brighten up our school, including pansies, violas and snapdragons.

A huge shout-out to our Year 5 Environment Leaders — Wyatt, Elsie, Keira and Harvey — who helped run a bin audit and did a beautiful job labelling our bins to help everyone recycle correctly. They led our Bunning’s incursion with kindness. They displayed strong communication skills and excellent organisation when assisting the younger grades to plant our veggie beds.

Well done to all our sustainability champions — your hard work is helping our school grow greener every day! 🌏💚
