Measuring Mass

This week in Prep, we have been learning all about mass and how we can compare the weight of different objects. The children have been busy using balance scales to investigate which objects are heavier and which are lighter.

We started by making predictions about which of two objects we thought would have the greater mass. We then used the balance scales to test our ideas and see if our predictions were correct. We practiced using words such as heavier and lighter to describe and compare the objects.

Next, we extended our learning by comparing more than two objects. We worked together to order objects from lightest to heaviest, using the balance scales to help us check our thinking.

It has been wonderful to see the children making predictions, testing their ideas and confidently explaining what they noticed as they explored and compared mass!
