Behaviour Spotlight: Keep our hands, feet and objects to our self.

At our school, we work together to create a safe, respectful and caring environment for everyone. One important way we do this is by keeping our hands, feet and objects to ourselves. This helps everyone feel safe, included and ready to learn.

Helpful tips for students:

  • Use kind words instead of your hands when solving problems.
  • Keep a safe personal space bubble around yourself and others.
  • Walk calmly in classrooms, corridors and playground areas.
  • Use equipment the right way and only for its intended purpose.
  • Stop, think and make a safe choice if you feel upset, excited or frustrated.

When we keep our hands, feet and objects to ourselves, we show respect, build positive friendships and help make our school a happy place for all.

Word of the Week: Self Control

Students use self-control every day at school to help themselves learn, build friendships and stay safe.

Examples of self-control include:

  • Raising your hand and waiting to be called on, even when you are excited to share an answer.
  • Walking calmly in the classroom instead of running.
  • Keeping your hands and feet to yourself when you feel frustrated.
  • Waiting patiently for your turn during a game or activity.
  • Taking a deep breath and using kind words when you disagree with someone.
  • Staying focused on your work, even when friends are talking nearby.
  • Accepting a teacher's decision respectfully, even if it is not what you wanted.

How Students Can Show Self-Control

  • Stop and think before making a choice.
  • Take deep breaths when feeling angry, upset or overwhelmed.
  • Use positive self-talk, such as "I can stay calm" or "I can wait my turn."
  • Ask for help from a teacher if emotions feel too big to manage alone.
  • Follow school expectations, even when no one is watching.
