Principal's Report

Jamie Sharp

Welcome back to Term 2!

I hope everyone had a safe and restful holiday break. It’s always a special time to recharge and gear up for the term ahead. Over the Easter break, I had the pleasure of attending the Stawell Gift for the fifth year in a row; a family tradition that continues to be a highlight for us each year.

ANZAC Day Commemoration

On Monday, our student leaders did a wonderful job leading the ANZAC Day ceremony at school, paying tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our country. We were fortunate to have Brian Robertson, a current serviceman, share his reflections, offering valuable perspective on the significance of the day.

Additionally, it was inspiring to see our leaders participate in the Somerville Dawn Service, where they read 'In Flanders Fields' and laid a floral wreath on behalf of our school community. Thank you to all the students and families who attended. Your presence made the day even more meaningful.

Basketball Roof

I’m pleased to share that progress on the basketball court is moving along well. As I write this report, everything is on track for the court to be back in action within the next two weeks. Despite some unavoidable transportation delays, the contractors have done an excellent job completing the final stages of the new steel roof. We are very much looking forward to students enjoying this space once again.

Curriculum Day

Last Thursday, our staff took time to reflect on the achievements of our recent School Strategic Plan. We celebrated many successes, including strong gains in academic performance and a noticeable lift in positivity reflected through both student and staff surveys.

I would also like to thank all the families who took the time to complete the Communication Survey sent out at the end of Term 1. Your feedback has been incredibly valuable in guiding our future planning.

During the day, staff also worked together to start shaping the vision for the next four years at Somerville Primary School, ensuring that students, staff, and the broader community continue to thrive. We also revisited the Child Safe Standards to reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment for every student.

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! Our Mother’s Day Stall will be happening on Friday 9th May, giving students the opportunity to pick out a special gift for their mums or significant people in their lives. A big thank you to all the mums and volunteers who help make this event possible — and to all our Somerville mums, thank you for the endless support, love, and care you give every day. We hope you enjoy a very special Mother’s Day!

Don't forget to attend the special Mother's Day afternoon activities on Friday 9th May. Each year level has an activity planned for their mum or special person.

Election Day

Voting for the federal election will occur at our school this Saturday. As a part of the school review, we have been assessing the role of our fundraising team - FoSP. As a result there is no fundraising happening on this day as we work on our strategies to enable effective fundraising activities going forward.
