DISTRICT ATHLETICS
With the massive term it’s been, we’ve almost missed on acknowledging this big day of athletics held out at GR Bricker Reserve in Moorabbin, back on the 22nd of August! This event saw our top placing Year 3-6 athletes from our House Athletics carnival this year, compete in their various track and field events against other Dendy District schools.
The day saw some rather impressive running, jumping and throwing efforts by many of our students, as well as from other Dendy schools. Overall we have 16 students place top 2 in their respective event/s and will now compete at the Beachside Division Athletics carnival on Friday 10th of October.
Congratulations to these students and we wish them all the very best for Division:

MASSIVE DAY @ JNR. HOOPTIME
If there was one sporting tournament on our school calendar that could be labelled as the most anticipated, this Junior Hooptime tournament would most certainly win the title! With so many eager Year 3 & 4 students keen to make a team this year, it was game-on from the first trial date held at school.
Tournament highlights; We’d like to congratulate all 46 players on their wonderful team-efforts and sportsmanship displayed over the course of the day out at Nunawading stadium. St. Finbar’s had six teams playing (All Star Boys/Mixed, Future Stars Boys/Mixed Fire, FS Boys/Mixed Firebirds, FS Boys/Mixed Falcons, Future Star Girls Flames & Future Star Girls Flamingo’s), and impressively ALL six teams reached at least the semi finals! Two of our Boys/Mixed Future Star teams met each other in their semi final game, with our FS Firebirds scoring the win against our FS Fire team. Our FS Firebirds gave it their best in their grandfinal game, however just ran out of steam after the mega SF semi final!
We congratulate our All Star Boys/Mixed team, who ended up undefeated all day and stormed through to become victorious in their Grand Final - congratulations to this team!
We’d like to also acknowledge the many parents who gave up their day to come along to support our teams; ranging from bus support, coaching, scoring, sub-helping or just cheering the teams on - THANK YOU to all parents that were able to help out in some way! A special thanks also goes to Mr Callum Mills and Miss Bianca Antonio who supported the teams on the day. Our All Star Boys team will now head to Regional HoopTime some time in Term 4. We wish them all the very best for this next level of competition.
EXCITING NEWS TO SHARE!
We’d also like to congratulate Edie S (6T) who has once again made Victorian representation within a sport - this time trialling and being selected in the Team Vic Track and Field team for Long Jump and possible medley relay. Edie attended the State Track & Field tryouts three weeks ago now and trialled in a number of 12&U events, including 200m, hurdles and long jump. Edie was able to perform well on the day and in her long jump she came 2nd overall, with a massive jump of 4.71m. The top 3 for each event make the team, so she is now extremely excited to represent Victoria once again and heads to Canberra in November to compete at the AIS at the National Track & Field Primary School Championships. Well done Edie!
TERM 4 SPORT AHEAD!
Next term we are set for a fabulous array of sports, with a number of our Year 3&4’s and 5&6’s set to play in the Dendy District Cricket Blast tournaments, held at Dendy Park. We also have our final whole school carnival; our Inter-House Swimming Carnival at MSAC pool in Albert Park in late November. This day sees all Prep - Year 2 students swim in three events (25m freestyle, 25 backstroke & Novelty relay), with optional flotation & adult support. Our Year 3-6 students also participate up the other end of the pool within their pre-selected 25m or 50m races; including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, novelty race and mixed-age relays. We also aim to finish the day with our Year 6’s enjoying a modified Water Polo game and some further relays. We encourage full participation at this final House event for the year, celebrating their improved swimming skills from the 2 week intensive swimming program held this term.
