THE JAPANESE WORD OF THE FORTNIGHT
すきです (pronounced ‘sukides’) which means ‘like’ is the Japanese Word for Week 2 & 3 of Term 3. You can use ‘すきです’ (‘sukides’) to say you like something. For example, if you want to say, ‘I like sushi’, you say ‘Sushi sukides’ (すしすきです). The word, ‘I’ is often omitted in conversation when it’s obvious.
Thank you / ありがとうございます (pronounced ‘aligatoh gozaimas’) for your continuing support for our Japanese program.

BOOK WEEK 2026
One of our most popular events at Valkstone Primary School is Book Week, which will be celebrated in Week 7 on Friday, 28 August.
We are excited to announce that this year we have a special author visiting our school! Julie Anne Grasso, author of Hooray, Hooray, It's Library Day and the popular Frankie novel series, will be speaking with our students throughout the day.
To celebrate Book Week, all students will:
Dress up as their favourite book character.
Meet author Julie Anne Grasso.
Take part in our whole-school Book Week Parade during the assembly at the end of the day.
This year's Children's Book Week theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’. We encourage families to explore the theme and find inspiration for costumes. The idea is that students can come dressed as a book character. For more information on the theme, you can visit https://cbca.org.au/childrens-book-week/
We invite all students to start thinking about their Book Week costume now. There is no need to purchase an expensive outfit. We encourage families to get creative by using items from around the house, borrowing from friends or family, or visiting local op shops. Imagination is the key, and we can't wait to see everyone's wonderful book character creations!
Please keep an eye on Compass over the coming weeks for further details, including permission information and payment for the author visit.
We look forward to celebrating a fantastic day filled with books, stories and creativity!
The Instrumental music program at Valkstone PS is back for 2026! Having a fantastic start in the later half of 2025, we would love to see even more Valkstone students take up an instrument and start their passion for playing music.
Enrolments are now open: We currently have guitar, drums and piano running in school hours with a waiting list for other instruments.
