Principal's Report

I am always happy to spend time writing my Principal newsletter article as it gives me time to pause and reflect on the incredible achievements and huge range of activities that happen every day at Syndal South Primary.

Firstly . . . Did you see Mr Riley in the Herald Sun last week? We were very excited to host a surprise visit from two Collingwood Football Club players who came to Syndal South to recognise the incredible impact Mr Riley has on the physical health and wellbeing of our school community. Have a look at our school Instagram page if you have not yet seen the posts!

One exciting project that has generated great enthusiasm across our community is planning for the restoration of our much-loved rocket ship playground. For generations of Syndal South students, the rocket ship has been a treasured part of childhood memories, and we are committed to preserving this iconic feature for future students to enjoy. We are grateful for the support already shown towards our Cadbury Fundraiser and look forward to working together as a community to bring this special project to life.

At Syndal South Primary School, we believe that exceptional student outcomes begin with exceptional teaching. Throughout this semester our staff are engaging in significant professional learning to continue strengthening their practice. A group of teachers have commenced the MEMC Mathematics course, further developing their expertise in delivering high-quality mathematics instruction that builds deep understanding and mathematical confidence. Another group of teachers have begun the SOLAR Literacy course, enhancing their knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction to support strong reading and writing outcomes for every student. At the same time, our leadership team is undertaking the Leading School Improvement course through the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership, deepening our capacity to lead sustainable improvement and ensure our school continues to provide the very best educational opportunities for every student. This ongoing investment in professional learning reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in teaching and wellbeing.

Our students continue to demonstrate outstanding achievement across many areas of learning. We are extremely proud of our excellent NAPLAN results, which reflect the sustained efforts of our students, teachers and families working together to achieve strong academic outcomes.

In the coming weeks, a significant number of students will also challenge themselves by participating in the ICAS assessments across a range of subject areas. We commend these students for embracing opportunities to extend their learning and showcase their skills.

We have also been delighted by the exceptional quality of entries submitted for the Science Talent Search. Students have demonstrated remarkable creativity, curiosity and scientific thinking through their innovative projects.
