Holy Week is one of the most sacred times in the Catholic Church, inviting us to journey with Jesus through the final days of his life. Beginning with Palm Sunday and culminating in Easter Sunday, this week helps us to remember and reflect on the events of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection. For our students, it is a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of faith, compassion and the message of hope at the heart of the Gospel.
Throughout the week, we recall key moments such as Holy Thursday, when Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples and taught us about service and love, and Good Friday, when we remember his great sacrifice on the cross. These stories help children to connect with important values such as kindness, forgiveness and standing up for others. Through prayer, reflection and classroom activities, students are encouraged to see how these lessons can be lived out in their everyday lives.
As we celebrate the joy of Easter Sunday, we are reminded that hope and new life are always possible. Holy Week is not only a time of remembrance but also a call to renewal in our hearts and actions. As a school community, we are invited to walk this journey together, supporting one another in faith and striving to live as people of love, peace, and hope.
At St Therese’s, we acknowledge Holy Week with a Stations of the Cross liturgy, which this year was led reverently by our senior students. Staff and students worked collaboratively to create meaningful artwork and provocations for each of the Stations, enriching the experience for all. Each class had the opportunity to walk through the Stations together in reflection and prayer and we were also delighted that Felicity was able to guide some of our families through this special journey.
