New Extra-Curricular Opportunity: TPS Elevate Athletics Program

Trafalgar Primary School is excited to announce the upcoming trial of a new extra-curricular initiative — the TPS Elevate Athletics Program.

As a school, we are committed to creating opportunities for all students to grow, succeed, and pursue their passions. While our Physical Education and sporting programs continue to provide strong foundations in physical literacy and participation for all students, we also recognise the importance of extending students who demonstrate advanced skills and strong athletic potential.

The Elevate Athletics Program has been designed to provide selected students with access to additional coaching, technical development, and high-level training experiences that are not always possible within regular PE sessions.

The program will run on Wednesday afternoons from 2:25pm–3:25pm throughout the remainder of 2026 and will involve approximately 24 students from Grades 3–6 who recently competed at West Gippsland Divisional Athletics and/or Cross Country events.

Students will participate in a specialised “Jump, Run, Throw” rotation model focusing on advanced athletics skills such as sprint mechanics, jumping technique, and throwing form, supported through targeted coaching and individual feedback.

We are incredibly fortunate to have secured Taneille Crase to lead the program. Taneille is an elite Australian athlete, three-time National Champion, 2022 Commonwealth Games finalist in the Women’s Heptathlon, and a Level 3 Performance Development Coach. She will be supported by school staff including Rick White.

Importantly, this initiative is being trialled in a way that carefully balances extension opportunities with students’ broader academic responsibilities. Sessions have been scheduled late in the day to minimise disruption to classroom learning, and participation in the program will remain linked to students maintaining positive effort, behaviour, and learning habits in their regular classes.

Parents of eligible students have already received information and invitations regarding participation in the trial program.

We are excited to see how this initiative develops and look forward to continuing to provide rich and diverse opportunities for students at Trafalgar Primary School.
