AEU Industrial Action Suspended

Following the in-principle agreement reached between the department and the Australian Education Union (AEU), the AEU informed the department on 18 May 2026 that all industrial action related to negotiations to finalise the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA) has been entirely suspended.

This includes all stop work action, including that related to school visits by Members of Parliament.

The AEU had included a ‘ban on all aspects of work related to the provision of written comments on student reports that will be provided to parents’ in the industrial action.

While this ban has now been lifted, the department recognises that it may now be difficult for some schools to provide full written comments for Semester 1.

At Trafalgar Primary School the reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.

We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at our next parent-teacher interviews, or, as always, you can contact the school to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher.

Breakfast Club

As we move past the halfway mark of Term 2, it’s been wonderful to see another fantastic term for the Breakfast Club at Traf Primary School! Our kitchen has been buzzing each morning as we serve up hot toast, cheesy toasties, warm Milo and cereal, helping students start their day with a healthy and nutritious breakfast.

None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our sponsors. A huge thank you to IGA Trafalgar, Gracie's Bakery, Baker's Delight Mid Valley and Foodbank for their ongoing donations and support throughout the year — your contributions make a real difference to our school community.

As well as daily breakfasts, we continue to offer Care Packages for families who need a little extra support. If you or someone you know would benefit from a free Care Package, please pop into the School Office or have a chat with Mrs Marslen.  All enquiries are welcome and completely private.

Donations of Milo or jam are greatly appreciated and can be dropped at the School Office. Thank you for your continued support of Breakfast Club! 🍞☕

Looking forward to seeing you all for Brekky!

Student Attitudes to School Survey (Years 4–6)

Over the coming weeks, students in Years 4–6 will have the opportunity to take part in the annual Student Attitudes to School Survey. This is an important statewide survey that gives students a voice about their experience at school—what helps them learn, how they feel about their relationships, and their overall sense of wellbeing.

At Trafalgar Primary School, we place a strong emphasis on listening to our students. The insights from this survey help us reflect on our practice and continue to strengthen the learning environment, wellbeing supports, and engagement opportunities we provide.

The data is used at both a school and system level to guide improvements and ensure we are meeting the needs of all learners.

The survey will be completed online at school between 11 May and 12 June, takes around 20–40 minutes, and is entirely voluntary. Students can skip any questions or stop at any time. All responses are confidential, and results are reported only in grouped form, ensuring no individual student can be identified.

Please take a moment to read the attached letter, which provides more detailed information, including how to opt out if you choose.

We value the opportunity for our students to share their perspectives, and we thank families for supporting this important process.

Joint Working Bee with Trafalgar Kinder

We had an outstanding attendance for our joint working bee last weekend. About 25 parents, students and older and younger siblings came along and put in 4+ hours of hard work to:

- Trim and tidy up trees to improve safety and visibility

- Clear vegetation along the back fence behind Kinder

- Section off the gum tree for STEM class use

- Trim back the orchard and other trees behind Kinder

- Refresh the play area mulch for the kinder

- Trim and clear trees and clear pathways around the developing STEM outdoor classroom

- Check, weed and tidy up garden beds around both the school and kinder grounds

It's looking great out there, and it's all thanks to those in our community who take time out of their busy schedules to help us and share tools and equipment to get the job done. Families are encouraged to take a walk to see what we've accomplished. We are proud of and grateful for the support our families give.

We enjoyed tea, coffee, milo, morning tea, fruit and some treats thanks to donations from some P&F and Kinder staff members. Thank you to the Kinder centre for opening their facilities so we could stay warm and dry during our breaks. Thank you also to BK's of Trafalgar for delivering hot chips to us for lunch.
