Wellbeing News

QUICK NOTE
As a courtesy to our neighbours and wider community, we ask all families to ensure they park safely and legally during drop-off and pick-up times. Please be mindful not to block driveways, double park, or obstruct access to homes and businesses. We also ask that all interactions within our community reflect the respect, kindness and consideration we seek to model for our children.
Thank you for your support in helping keep our community safe and welcoming for everyone.
Child Safe Standard 5
Child Safe Standard 5: Equity is Upheld and Diverse Needs are Respected in Policy and Practice
At St Michael's, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment where every child feels valued, respected and supported. Child Safe Standard 5 recognises that children have different backgrounds, identities, abilities and experiences, and that these differences must be understood and respected.
We acknowledge that some children may be more vulnerable to harm and require additional support to ensure their safety and wellbeing. This includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with disability, children who are unable to live at home, and children who identify as LGBTQIA+.
What this looks like at St Michael's
- Promoting inclusion, respect and belonging for all students.
- Providing opportunities for every child to participate and succeed.
- Recognising and celebrating diversity within our school community.
- Making reasonable adjustments to support individual student needs.
- Challenging discrimination, exclusion and unfair treatment.
Ensuring children's voices are heard and valued.
What this feels like for students
- I am welcomed and accepted for who I am.
- I feel safe, respected and included.
- My culture, identity and experiences matter.
- I know there are trusted adults who will support me.
- I can participate fully in school life.
What this sounds like
- "Everyone belongs here."
- "We celebrate our differences."
- "Your voice matters."
- "How can we support you?"
- "We treat everyone with dignity and respect."
Our Commitment
At St Michael's, we believe that every child has the right to feel safe, included and valued. By embracing diversity and promoting equity, we create a school community where all children can thrive, learn and reach their full potential.
Message from Ange,
Each month for the next ten months we will spotlight each of the 11 Child Safety Standards. MACS has developed resources to support a deepened understanding of the standards for parents and teachers and how they help support the safety of each child.
If you have any feedback as to how we can further support upholding the Child Safe Standard or what we are already doing well, please email angela.flint@smnthmelbourne.catholic.edu.au
