As we reach the midpoint of Term 3, we reflect on an exciting and eventful five weeks at Modbury School P-6. Our students have been engaged in a variety of enriching activities, from creative arts projects to sports events, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm. The recent Science Week was a highlight, sparking curiosity and innovation among our young learners.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to share several upcoming events that promise to be both educational and enjoyable for our students. Our annual Book Week parade is just around the corner, offering a wonderful opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of literature. Additionally, preparations are underway for our Sports Day, a community favourite that brings families together for a day of fun and celebration. Stay tuned for details about this event in the coming weeks.
We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing these experiences with you and your children.
Primary Principal's Day
We had a fantastic day celebrating our leadership team, and specifically Mrs. Slater, on Primary Principals' Day. Students shared heartfelt messages and sent Mrs. Slater lovely cards, while staff enjoyed a beautiful morning tea. It was a day filled with appreciation and highlighted the positive impact our principal has on our school community.

Please join us in congratulating Jade on her tenure as Deputy Principal. We are confident that her contribution will help us to continue to achieve excellence in education and support the growth and development of our students at Modbury School P-6.
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day is a special occasion to honour the strengths and culture of Indigenous children. Held annually on the 4th of August, this day provides an opportunity to celebrate their unique heritage and foster understanding and respect within our community.
Open Afternoon
On Tuesday of Week Four we held our termly Term 3 Open Afternoon. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to welcome their families into the classroom. It was a joy to see children sharing their learning experiences, reading stories, and playing games with loved ones. The children proudly showed off their learning spaces, and some even got their parents involved in a class quiz. We look forward to welcoming you into classes at our next Open Afternoon in Term 4.
Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC)- STEM Challenge
We are thrilled to announce that our students have excelled in the Premier's Reading Challenge - STEM Challenge! Recently, we had the honour of welcoming Mark Williams, a representative from the Department for Education and the Premier's Reading Challenge, as a special visitor to our school. During his visit, Mark told our students about the STEM challenge, and explained that students needed to read about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in the lead-up to National Science Week.
Students then had to plan an invention (Yr 3-5), or create a poster (Yr 6-9) relating to their book in the area of STEM, Space, Nature, or Renewable Energy. Entries from all over South Australia were shortlisted, and narrowed down to 12 in each category. Our school achieved incredible results, with Keerat awarded runner-up in the Yr 3-5 Space category, Luke awarded runner-up in the Yr 6-9 Nature category, and Aaron awarded winner in the Yr 6-9 Nature Category.
Mark presented our talented students with well-deserved prizes for their outstanding achievements. This recognition highlights the dedication and creativity of our students in integrating reading with STEM learning. Congratulations to all participants and winners for their hard work and success!
Treasure Hunt- Book Week Performance
To launch Book Week, our students watched a performance of 'Treasure Hunt.' The engaging show took them on an adventurous journey, sparking their imaginations and love for reading. Through lively characters and an exciting storyline, the performance highlighted the joy of discovery and the importance of teamwork. Students participated in interactive segments, making the experience even more memorable.

Competing against schools from across the region, our athletes showcased their dedication and talent in various events. Their hard work and team spirit were truly commendable, making us all proud. A big thank you to Mr. Venter for all of the organising, and to the families who came to watch and support on the day. Well done to all of our participants for their fantastic efforts!

Our school choir recently participated in an off-site rehearsal in preparation for the upcoming Festival of Music. The day was filled with harmony and enthusiasm as students fine-tuned their performances under the guidance of instructors. This valuable experience not only enhanced their musical skills but also boosted their confidence in the lead-up to their big event on the stage at the Entertainment Centre.
