National Science Week
It is National Science Week this week! This year’s theme is ‘Species Survival: More than just Sustainability’. We are running quizzes every morning for Infant, Primary and Secondary students, with chances to win prizes. Keep an ear out for the questions every morning!
Congratulations to Quinn!
Congratulations to SCC Year 6 student, Quinn McCormick who made it into the Tasmanian Hockey Team this year. Quinn is in Cairns this week playing in the Nationals!
Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser – Year 6 Canberra Trip
On Friday 23rd August, Year 6 are holding a fundraising sausage sizzle for the whole school, to help with the cost of our trip to Canberra. Order forms are being sent home today and spare forms are available at the office. Orders close at recess on Wednesday 21 August. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available.
Please place the exact money together with the order form into a press seal bag (no change given) and put it in the grey letterbox near the office.

Book Week
19-23 August
This year's Book Week theme is – Reading is Magic. A letter has also been sent home to Primary parents from Mr Hugh Richardson via email, with details about the Book Week Parade, costumes, Book Week library lessons and a Book Week Poster Competition.
Tuesday 20 August – Primary Book Week Parade and Assembly commencing at 9:10am in the Auditorium.
SCC Makers' Market - Register your help!
The Southern Christian College Twilight Makers' Market is only 12 weeks away and we would love your help! If you would like to be involved in the Makers' Market on Friday 18 October please get in touch with Martin Prins martin.prins@scc.tas.edu.au

Ways to get involved at this stage are:
- Plants! - Striking cuttings, germinating seeds, and donating plants for the plant stall.
- Joining the organising committee! - meeting times from 3:30pm on Thursdays monthly as we lead up to the big event.
- Donations! - Do you have craft items, card making, fabrics, leather or timber to donate for students to turn into items of beauty? We also hope to run a silent auction so if you have holiday packages, tickets, new house hold items, vouchers or suitable items for the auction please get in touch.
The vision and mission of the Market is to celebrate the God given ability to create and be makers by showcasing the brilliant work our students do as well as fund raise for the school and build a stronger sense of school community. Money raised will go towards equipment for creative learning experiences for students across the whole school. From previous Makers' Markets we have been able to buy a laser cutter/engraver that has been used in secondary classes and will be moved into the new Digi Tech space for all students to utilise.
