Year 1 News

In the Year 1 class we have been experimenting with a wide range of art mediums. Students have completed multi-media portraits that used digital technology, printing, painting and drawing. They also learnt about sculpture and created their own paper ones.

In Maths, our students have been actively participating in their learning journey. They have been learning about location and practising using directional language and maps to communicate and follow instructions and routes. Students were given a map of the playground and had to follow the route shown on it to a secret location. This route took them up the equipment, down the slide, across the basketball courts, around the dizzy-whizzy, over the pirate ship and eventually led to the new sandpit. Once they returned to the classroom, students had a turn drawing their own map of the playground. This was a great introduction into our new Unit of Inquiry which will start this week about places and the ways that they can change over time.

For Show and Tell this week Year 1 students have enjoyed sharing their ‘favourite living thing’ with their classmates as we concluded our Unit of Inquiry on living things. There was such a wonderful variety of "living things!"

Show and Tell - Wilbur brought Blossom, his great dane, Sissi her special plant and Nathaniel brought his sea dragons, though they are still eggs in the packet.
