National Nutrition Week    12 - 18th October, 2026

National Nutrition Week is an annual opportunity to celebrate food and start positive conversations about the role it plays in our lives in Australia. In 2026, National Nutrition Foundation is celebrating Love what you eat, exploring how food connects us to culture, community and place, supports wellbeing and brings people together.

To celebrate National Nutrition Week at Niangala this week, we are going to explore our foods through our senses whilst developing our vocabulary in relation to foods in the sense of senses - taste, touch, smell and sound. We are going to do the blindfold challenge where students will be given a range of foods which they have to feel, smell, taste and listen to (?) and use the bank of vocabulary words to describe their findings and try to identify the food they have before them using all their senses except sight!

It is also a timely reminder to please pack your children with nutritious meals to set them up for a healthy and happy day. Remember most foods that come pre-packaged, although convenient are notoriously not nutritious as they are usually high in preservatives, additives, sugar and salt. If you need suggestions for affordable, healthy and nutritious snacks or meals please contact us. We would love to assist with this. What we put in our bodies has a huge impact on what we can get out of them!
